HEATHER TAKES THE CAKE

...🛶...

A hangover wasn't the only thing Heather woke up to regret the morning after her birthday, not with a snoring Abby Morgan passed out beside her. She'd quickly woken the girl up, forcing her and her high heels out her window. No one could ever know.

That was how Heather found herself walking across the school quad Friday morning in the hopes of avoiding anyone who would see the guilt in her gaze. But she wasn't lucky as Joey caught up with her "Recovered from your not-so-sweet sixteen?"

"Just about." She muttered, glancing to the brunette before frowning at the look on her friends face "What's up, Jo?"

The Potter girl sighed "The Icehouse is catering the Wilson wedding tomorrow."

Heather's eyebrows furrowed at the thought of the event her parents would be attending (separately of course) "Since when do we cater?"

"Since my father got paroled from prison and took over the restaurant."

Heather's eyes widened in shock "Your dad's back?"

"Last night." Joey sighed, raking her hands through her hair "Found him standing on the porch."

"Are you okay?" Heather frowned in concern.

Joey nodded "Yeah, it's just a little weird. I've been broadsided by a bus... a happy bus. Um... just reeling from the shock I guess."

Heather sighed "Joey, it's me you're talking to."

Joey took a deep breath, lower lip wobbling "Last night I was lying in bed and I couldn't sleep. I-I was shaking. I have this pit in my stomach the size of a grenade. I've seen my dad one time in 3 years. We can't just pick up where we left off. And then this whole catering plan is just compounding my anxieties. I mean, all the blue bloods of capeside are going to be at the wedding. This isn't the most low-profile setting for my father to re-emerge into society."

"Joey, you need to talk to him." Heather advised "You need to reunite with your father before the public does."

"You should've seen Bessie's face this morning." Joey sighed heavily "I mean she was so excited. I don't wanna rain on their parade."

Heather linked her arm through Joey's "Well, don't worry. I'll be at the wedding right beside you."
