SUCKER PUNCH

...🛶...

FINALS were over, and with that, so was Junior year. That meant only one thing, summer at the Cape had arrived. Heather silently made her way through town with her mother, shopping bags in hand when her fathers voice called out "Well, if it isn't my blushing bride-to-be and her beautiful maid of honour!"

"We just stopped by C'est Magnifique and Debbie says the dresses will be ready by tomorrow but the cakes ready right now and I want you to come see it." Gail grabbed Mitch's hand and the couple said their goodbyes leaving their kids alone.

"They are as happy as I've ever seen them." Dawson mused with a little smile.

"Yeah." Heather mumbled.

Dawson looked to her hopefully "You want some ice cream?"

"No, I'm not in the mood."

He scoffed out a laugh "You're always in the mood for ice cream."

Heather shook her head, walking away from her brother, leaving him to frown "Things change."

...🛶...

HEATHER was driving back from picking up the bouquets from the florists, windows downs as the breeze swept through her hair when a squad car pulled up behind her, flashing her to pull over. The Leery girl frowned as she watched Doug make his way to her window "Drivers license and registration, please?"

She scoffed "You're kiddin' me, right?"

"Drivers licence and registration, please." Doug simply held out his hand and Heather sighed before handing it over "Miss. Leery I clocked you going—"

"You have a radar gun?" She cut him off in surprise. She didn't think Capeside had the budget.

"Visual assessment." He admitted shortly, handing back her papers "You were going 5 to 7 miles below the limit but I'll let it go with a warning this time."

Heather rolled her eyes "Well, I promise to speed it up."

"Not that kind've warning." He put a hand on her window "I just thought you might like to know unbeknownst to you a particular attitudinally challenged younger sibling of mine is preparing to leave Capeside for the summer. Seems he's gonna sail himself down to the Florida keys for the next 3 months."

Heather frowned "When does he leave?"

"In a couple of days." He muttered "I just thought you might like to know about it before it was too late for you to say or do something."
