PIECE OF MY HEART
...🛶...
HEATHER had picked up an extra few shift at The Icehouse to distract herself and everyone around her from looking too closely. The Leery girl wiped down the counter tops as Jack and Joey stacked the chairs and cleared the tables.
"So, uh, Joey?" Jack started and Heather glanced over at the pair.
Joey raised an eyebrow "Yeah?"
"You know, I-I've tried biting my tongue, but, um, the $64,000 question has to be asked." Jack smirked "What's up with you and Dawson?"
"Nothing."
Jack scoffed "Yeah, nothing."
"Please, you were practically racing for the bed." Heather teased, earning a wide eyed look from Joey and a laugh from Jack.
Joey sighed in defeat "Yeah, okay, but we're putting it on hold. We have enough to deal with without adding our complicated relationship to the mix."
"Alright, I'll buy that." Jack nodded, the pair making their way over to Heather "So how do you feel otherwise?"
"Um, okay. I've obviously had a lot on my mind lately." Joey shrugged before looking to the boy "How are you feeling about this whole thing?"
Jack hesitated "I-I know this sounds a little morbid, but I can't stop thinking about the fact that Abby and I kissed at your birthday party, Heather. Which means I'm probably the last person she ever kissed."
"I wouldn't be so sure."
The two looked to Heather in surprise as Joey questioned "What do you mean? Who—oh."
Looking between the girls, at Joey's wide eyes and Heather's weary one, Jack put two and two together "You and Abby?"
"It was one hell of a birthday present." Heather shrugged sheepishly.
"Well, at least she went out with a bang." Joey's eyes widened at her own blurted word's, throwing a hand across her mouth "Oh, Heather, I'm so sor—"
The Potter girl was cut off by Heather's laugh, surprising both her and Jack, but as they watched the girl smile, their own began to form. It was a sight to see and one they had missed lately. But for Heather it was that her friends weren't pretending, they knew who Abby was and her death didn't change that.
...🛶...
PEERING in the doorway of Capeside High's computer lab, Pacey sighed as he made his way over to Dawson who was working on his re-edit "Your mom said I'd find you here."
