Jane skipped school the next days. After her fight with Max, she went back to her home, took some stuff, and quickly went to Mallory's. Her aunt called her many times, but Jane was too furious at her to answer her. And her body was hurting, she was spending her days sleeping in her best friend's bed when she was at work. Right now, Jane was still in the bed while Mallory was preparing something to eat.
- "Send her a message," the blonde girl softly said.
- "No!" the brunette sharply answered.
- "Why not? She must be worried!"
- "I don't care."
Mallory sighed. She stopped preparing her pastas and sat on the bed next to Jane. She leaned above Jane's face and raised the bandage of her eye.
- "It looks better," the blonde girl smiled.
- "Whouhou."
- "How is school?"
- "Dunno. I'm taking my driving license next Monday."
- "Really? That's so cool!"
- "Yeah. It's the only good thing."
- "Oh..."
- "Actually, music classes are cool. And art too. And sport is okay. But that's all. And everyone hates me anyway," Jane mumbled.
- "Don't say that. I'm sure it's because they don't know you," Mallory said.
- "They already know me. I mean, have you looked at me right now?"
- "Jane—"
- "It's fine. She'll pay."
Mallory pinched her lips together before laying down next to Jane, facing her.
- "How are Medhi and Melissa?" Jane asked.
- "Good, good. Melissa is studying hard and Medhi is still working in the ambulance."
- "Cool. I can't wait to see them. I hope it will be soon."
- "Yeah..."
Jane didn't notice the sad tone that Mallory had, and the blonde girl was glad she didn't. Mallory kissed Jane's cheek before getting out of the bed to prepare two plates. She helped Jane to sit as the brunette's ribs were still hurting. Mallory asked more questions about school to Jane as it was her dream to study. She wished Jane was understanding the opportunity she had instead of ruining it like that. But she got surprised when Jane told her that she would go to music class at the end of the day. She was sure Jane would stay in her apartment the end of the week.
- "You wanna come?"
- "What? Me? Oh, uh...no, no...it's fine. Don't worry for me," Mallory said with sadness.
- "It's just one hour. And I'm sure Ms. Jenkins will be happy to have you in her class."
- "I, I don't know...I've nothing to wear, and I don't want them to know what I am...they'll mock you..."
- "If they mock me for having such a good friend, then they're just a bunch of dickheads. Come on, I'm sure we can find something."
Jane took a mouthful of her pastas before standing with struggle and going to the wardrobe. Mallory had a wide smile on her face. She knew Jane had some struggles to control her angers, but she was a sweet person too. Mallory tried some clothes, even Jane's, and finally found an outfit which looked normal enough to be accepted in a school.
After an hour of ride in bus, the two friends arrived at Jane's school. The bell just rang, but as Jane was still limping, they couldn't run in the halls to join the class. The brunette showed her friend her locker and let her try it before going downstairs in direction of the music class. The door was already opened. Jane was about to enter, but Mallory stopped and knocked at the door, something that Jane was never doing.
- "Oh, hi," the teacher smiled. "Jane, what happened to you?"
- "Oh, uh...a fight."
- "Are you okay?"
- "Yeah, I'm fine. Um, this is Mallory, I wanted to know if she could come in class with me today."
- "Of course, come in! The more the merrier!"
Mallory smiled before following Jane inside. The brunette let her seat to her friend, and, as he didn't want to separate them, Troy let his seat to Jane and sat at a free table near the two redheads.
- "Do you have any formation in music?" Ms. Jenkins asked.
- "Oh, no. I didn't have this chance," Mallory answered, a bit embarrassed.
- "Did you have the chance to hear Jane playing the guitar? Or singing?"
- "Sadly no. She is very shy."
- "I can understand. Are you her pen friend?"
- "No, no. We are best friend."
- "Oh, that's great! Then, I hope you'll enjoy my class."
- "I'm sure I will."
Jane moved Troy's table to be closer to Mallory before sitting next to her best friend. Ms. Jenkins did her class normally, giving some information to Mallory when she was talking about something a little bit complicated. Mallory really loved this class; she took notes about everything while Jane barely wrote in her notebook. In fact, Jane was more focused on angrily looking at Max than the class itself. She was sure the redhead could feel her eyes on her.
And she was right. Max didn't dare looking behind her; too scared to meet Jane's killing eyes. Bev noticed her friend's discomfort. She grabbed her hand and squeezed it to reassure her, but it didn't work. Bev turned around and angrily frowned at Jane to make her stop. But Jane answered with her middle finger.
- "How can you be friend with her?" Bev asked.
- "She is cool!" Troy answered.
- "She is not! She is a bully! She is looking for shit and then she acts like a baby when she gets what she deserves!"
- "She has all the reasons to be mad! I mean, come on, Gary didn't give her a chance!"
- "Because you think she gave Max a chance!? And the worst part is that she is still claiming her innocence! She lies to make us think she is a victim!"
- "Everybody lies."
When Troy said that, he looked at Max on purpose. The redhead understood that Troy knew she lied, but she didn't know how he did it to know. She spent the end of the class avoiding eyes contact with everyone, trying to focus on the lesson.
When the bell rang, Max felt relieved. She could finally be freed of Jane's oppression. The brunette was talking with her friend. It gave Max an opportunity to slip away with Bev with no problem. Well, it was what she was thinking until she felt a leg on her way. She lost her balance and fell on her face.
- "You did it on purpose!" Bev grumbled.
Max was surprised to see Jane's friend helping her to stand.
- "Are you okay?" the blonde girl asked.
- "Yeah, yeah...I just tripped," Max answered, a bit dazed.
Bev killed Jane with her eyes, knowing it was the brunette's fault. Jane waggled her eyebrows which annoyed more the redhead. But none of them wanted to create a fight in the music class, so they just separated. Jane and Mallory stayed in the class to see the music instruments while Bev and Max left the classroom, quickly followed by Troy. Max quickly looked at him to know what he had in his mind, but he seemed to have forgotten the conversation they had about Jane and especially about the lie. She hoped he wouldn't tell anyone that she was a liar.
