Since the beginning of the summer break, Max was working late. She hated going home in the dark night, she was worried to meet the wrong people. She was the last one to leave the coffee shop. She counted the earnings of the day before locking the shop. Of course, there was no bus anymore to bring her back home. Next time, she would take her skateboard with her. She put her headphone on her ears and began to walk with quick steps in the streets of the town, under the moon. She could have enjoyed it if she was not terrified to be assaulted. She was feeling ridiculous to think like that, not everyone out there was here to kill her! But it was stronger than her. Maybe she was so scared to fail her independent life that everything was scaring her.

As she wanted to be at home as soon as possible, she decided to take a short-cut between the buildings to gain some time. She immediately regretted it when she walked by a group of teens who were looking at her with weird eyes. She tried to ignore them, but they began to follow her. She decided to run to get away from them, which made them laugh but not stop from following her. She turned to see if they were still behind her. They were there, but they were not following her anymore. She was slowing down when she bumped into someone and screamed of fear.

- "Wow, relax! It's just me!"

Max stopped screaming when she recognized Jane. The brunette was showing her hands like if she wanted to prove her she had no weapon. Max closed her eyes, rubbed her face, and calmed her breathing.

- "You good?" Jane asked.

- "Yes," Max sighed. "It's just...people were following me, and I thought...I thought it was the end."

Jane looked behind Max and saw the group of people at the end of the street. She closed her fists and was going in their direction when Max placed her hand on Jane's belly to stop her.

- "No. It's fine. Don't get in trouble for me."

- "I want them to understand that they can't harass people with no consequences!"

- "Don't do anything, okay? They won't come here now that you're here. I've never been so happy to see you!"

- "Yeah. You want me to walk with you?" Jane proposed.

- "I would love to, yes," Max smiled.

The brunette offered her arm to the redhead who accepted with no hesitation. Max was still feeling her body shaking and her heart racing. She really thought they were going to kill her just for fun. People could be crazy sometimes. But now, she wasn't alone anymore. Jane was gently taking her back home. Max was beginning to relax now. The night was even pleasant thanks to Jane. The redhead was looking at Jane while the brunette was looking at the sky. Max was sure Jane could be a very soft girlfriend if she wasn't interested only in sex. She found this moment strangely romantic. They had a smile on their faces the whole moment. But Max felt a pinch in her heart when they arrived in front of the door of her building.

- "Well, I guess this is where we separate," Max said.

- "Yep."

- "You're going somewhere?"

- "Oh yeah, I'm going to a bar, "The Dirty Men", to...you know."

- "Get drunk?"

- "Yeah...It's a bad period."

- "Oh, okay. Well, try to not have problems."

- "I will. Well, uh...See you."

- "Yep. Bye," Max smiled.

Jane pinched her lips together and nodded before slowly walking away. Max went to the door of her building and opened it but didn't enter. She stayed there, feeling like if she wasn't doing the right thing. She knew she would have this sensation all night, so she turned and called:
