When Jane went back home on Monday night, Cassandra was furious. First because Jane had been out the entire weekend without telling her where she was, and second because she had more bandages than last time. The woman took care of her niece's wounds before punishing the young girl. Jane wasn't allowed to hang out this week or to go back home alone. Now she had to wait for Cassandra to pick her up after class. The brunette loudly showed her disagreement by yelling, punching things, and throwing other things, but Cassandra didn't change her mind. She was too worried for her to let her do what she wanted. But the aunt was glad Jane didn't try to run away after class. The next days, Jane had been there on the parking lot waiting for her. She was glad to see that her niece was still listening to her sometimes.
In fact, if Jane wasn't complaining to wait on the parking lot for her aunt, it was because she could deal some drugs with some teens. She managed to save enough money for something she wanted to buy. It went faster like that. When Jane arrived at school this Friday, she was still angry. Even if Cassandra didn't seem mad at her anymore, Jane hated being treated like a child. At least, today, after class, Jane was allowed to go back home by her own. The brunette arrived at her locker and took her books when the shape of a girl looking with insistence at her appeared next to her.
- "What do you want, Hills!?"
- "I was just wondering if you were okay," Bev answered.
- "Why?"
- "I don't know...You have wounds and bruises very often..."
- "And then what!? You don't have friends to worry about!? No one is beating me, okay!? And, sometimes, abuse is not visible!"
- "Yeah...I know that..."
- "Great! Then go ask all your friends if they are okay and if everything is fine at home instead of polluting my air!"
Jane slammed her locker and angrily walked away. She wasn't mad at Hills, but what Dumbo told her when they were smoking made her realize that she wasn't the only one feeling lonely in this world. Beverly looked at the brunette walking away and wondered why she was this mad. Well, Jane was always mad, but she seemed madder right now. And why did she talk about abuse? Was someone else victim of abuse and she didn't see it? She was feeling stupid. Maybe Jane was right, Bev needed to take care of her friends before her. The redhead walked in the halls, the head down, and heard two of her friends talking. She looked up and recognized Will and Max a bit farther.
- "Hey guys," Bev said.
- "Hey Bev, how are you?" Will answered.
- "Good, good. How is it at home?"
- "At home?" Max frowned. "You're sure you're okay?"
- "Um, yeah. I was just wondering if everything was fine for you. I mean, you're my best friends so..."
- "Okay," Will chuckled. "Everything is fine at home. My mom will have an appointment with the headmaster next week."
- "Oh cool! I hope he will choose her!"
- "Me too."
- "And you Max?"
- "Oh, um, well...Billy is a dick, Neil is a dick, and my mom is not caring anymore, daily routine," Max explained.
- "Do they abuse you?"
- "W-what? N-no. I mean, they yell, but it has been always like that! Why do you ask that?"
- "I'm just worried. We all know how they are. We know Neil is vio-"
- "I'm fine, Bev. Okay? Can we stop talking about them? Having them at home is enough!"
