The music was sounding in the entire street, making vibrate the houses around. Max and Beverly just needed to follow the drunk teens to find the party. When they arrived near the house, they saw a group of teens carrying another one the head down and making him drink alcohol. Max was sure Billy used to do that at parties too. He was probably still doing it. At least, she had never seen him at the same parties as her, and she was crossing her fingers to not see him here. The host, Clara, welcomed them with a hug before leading them to the living-room to drink something. They met Mike and Will who were talking together.

- "Hey girls," Will smiled.

- "Hey, what's up?" Bev answered.

- "Nothing in particular. Mike was telling me that he invited Julia for a date."

- "Really? What did she answer?"

- "She obviously accepted," Mike said.

- "Obviously? It's hard to believe!" Max mocked. "Did you drug her?"

Mike winced at her which made them laugh. The four friends were joined by another friend, Lucas. The boy seemed stressed.

- "Is everything okay?" Bev frowned.

- "Yeah, yeah. Clara told me that Gabrielle was here."

- "Oh! You're gonna talk to her?" Mike smiled.

- "Yes, that's what I planned..."

- "Hey! It's not the moment to slip away!" Max intervened.

- "I'm not! I'm just...anxious."

- "You should go talk to her quickly before this bitch of Jane steals her from you!" Will said.

The boy showed a bit farther with his chin, making turn his friends. Jane was taking support on a wall, a cup in her hand, and talking with a pretty black-haired girl who was smiling to her. Max was tired to see her face everywhere she was going. And she began to boil inside when she noticed Lucas's disappointed expression on his face. Why did she have to ruin everything like that!? Lucas had never done anything to her! It was unfair. Gabrielle gently squeezed Jane's shoulder before walking away, near the group of friends.

- "Did you just talk to Jane? And she didn't kill you!?" Bev said.

- "Don't be stupid," Gabrielle chuckled. "She is socially a mess, but she is not that bad. We have French together."

- "Not that bad!? She stole my skateboard on her first day, then she broke it, and, I don't know if you remember, but she literally beat Max for no reason!"

- "Yeah, I heard about that...Are you feeling better?"

- "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine," Max shyly answered.

- "Was she flirting with you?" Bev continued.

- "No," Gabrielle chuckled. "She tried, but I told her I wasn't into girls."

- "And she didn't kill you after that?"

- "Stop saying things like that! It's probably because everyone tells things like that she is so...sharp with people."

- "When I tried to be nice—"

- "I know, I know."

Gabrielle gently squeezed Max's arm which made her blush. Gabrielle had a mesmerizing charm which was disturbing the redhead, feeling strange sensations inside her. She was glad the light was subdued in the room; no one seemed to have noticed her change of color. The black-haired girl smiled to them before walking away. Lucas thought it was his chance and followed her, letting his four friends together. Mike continued his conversation about Julia. Max tried to focus on what he was saying, but she couldn't stop looking at Jane, to be sure she wouldn't bully her. Jane seemed bored and sad, maybe she wouldn't even notice the redhead's presence. But Max couldn't take off this girl of her mind. She was so concentrated on Jane that she didn't notice Clara next to her and started.
