The school year was almost ending. Jane woke up with some excitement. Today was her birthday, and she would celebrate it with all her family and friends. She began her day with a copious breakfast with Constance and Cassandra who both wished her a happy birthday. It would be a happy birthday. Better than her birthday of last year.
- "Get ready," Cassandra said.
- "We're going somewhere?" Jane frowned.
- "You'll see."
Jane's smile grew. The brunette quickly finished her breakfast before running to her bedroom. Once everyone ready, they all took the car and drove in direction of the surprise of the day. Jane was trying to guess where they were going, but it wasn't a road they used to take, so she was a little bit lost. Cassandra parked the car and invited her two nieces to follow her. Jane kept looking around to understand where they were, but there was no hint for her. But, apparently, other people were going to the same place as her. She was feeling the excitement growing inside her. After a few steps, Jane noticed a wide round building and understood.
- "We're gonna see a match!"
- "Yes, we are," Cassandra chuckled.
- "What kind of match? It's not baseball because it's not the same stadium. Is it Football? Soccer? Basketball? Ice hockey?"
- "Basketball."
- "Awesome!"
Jane jumped multiple times on Cassandra's and Constance's shoulders, wanting them to understand how happy she was. Cassandra gave Jane her ticket. The brunette admired every detail of the piece of paper. They waited in the line before finally entering the building. Jane looked at everything with kid's eyes. The shop was full of derivative products. Jane wanted to buy everything. And Constance seemed as mesmerized as her.
- "Do you want something?" Cassandra asked.
- "Really? It's not too expensive?"
- "It's an important day, I can buy one thing from here if you want."
- "Can I have a jersey?"
- "Sure. Constance? You want something?"
- "Uh...but it's not my birthday..." the blonde girl said.
- "Don't be stupid, she is proposing you! It's not like if we were going to a match every day!" Jane stated.
- "...Can I have a basketball?"
- "Sure," Cassandra smiled.
Constance and Jane smiled to each other before choosing their presents. Cassandra took a mug for herself too. Jane put her new jersey on, a wide smile on her face. Once everyone with their presents, they bought hot-dogs, went to the bleachers, and searched for their seats. In fact, Cassandra was looking for the seats while the two sisters were looking at the players on the field who were training. The family sat on their seats and appreciated the nice view on the field.
- "Nice jersey!"
Jane looked on her left to see who talked to her and exclaimed:
- "Max!"
The brunette took her girlfriend in her arms before noticing that she was not alone. Bev, Clara, and Gabrielle were sitting next to her, while Mallory, Medhi, Melissa, and Clarissa were on the row behind them.
- "You're all here!"
- "You really thought you would go in a match without us?" Melissa joked.
- "That's so cool!"
- "Happy birthday, by the way!"
All her friends wished her a happy birthday accompanied with a tap on her head, making her laugh. Jane intertwined her fingers with Max's before focusing on the match. Jane was deeply in the game. Every time the crowd was yelling, she was yelling with them. And when they were celebrating, she was celebrating with them. She was standing every time something was happening. Right now, a player got pushed by another player and fell, so Jane brutally stood to yell:
- "HEY! THERE IS A FAULT!"
- "Jane, no, there is no fault," Max gently intervened.
- "Oh...NEVERMIND!"
The brunette sat again and widely smiled to Max and the others.
- "I don't know the rules," she smiled.
- "We saw!" Bev chuckled.
- "Are you having fun?" Max asked.
- "Yes, it's so cool! And you?"
- "I always have fun with you."
- "Blah, can you stop being cheesy!?" Clarissa gently mocked.
Max and Jane chuckled before softly kissing each other on purpose which amused the cousin.
At the end of the match, the group went to Jane's place to celebrate her birthday. Jane couldn't stop talking about the match with all of them, happy to have seen one, finally. When she arrived in her apartment, she had the good surprise to see Mary with Emily and Lana. The woman had decorated the place with tinsels and balloons. Emily threw confetti at Jane to wish her a happy birthday. They all went in the garden to let Jane blow her candles and to eat the cake, all together. As they were a lot, they decided to sit in the grass, not having enough chairs for everyone. Jane didn't stop smiling. She had never expected all her friends to be reunited all together in her apartment just for her.
Once the cake eaten, they all stood to bring her presents. Max, Gabrielle, Clara, and Beverly saved some money to buy Jane a smartphone. Melissa, Mallory, and Medhi bought her a box with pencils, colored pencils, felt pens, paints, and other things to draw and paint. Clarissa bought her two video games for her video games console. Constance and Cassandra bought her comics and a speaker for her music. Jane was feeling happy, she found no other word to describe what she was feeling. It took her so many years to finally be good with herself and with her family and friends that she was enjoying every second of her life with them. She could be herself now.
