Nini's POV
After one week...
Unfortunately, my parents grounded me in the house for the next ten months. No electronics, no devices, no way to contact Ricky. I can't sneak out now because that would be too dangerous. At least there's Gina up here to talk to me.
"You're lovesick," Gina concluded. "There's all the symptoms. Dreamy look, head in the clouds, and you see his face in...everything. Even toast."
(A/N: If you watched Liv and Maddie, you'll know what I mean!)
"He's just so...perfect," I replied, playing with a tassel on my blanket. "Now I'm grounded for the next ten months. What am I supposed to do? Just walk up to my parents and say, "I'm going to leave the house even though you told me not to because you've been way too protective of me my entire life?" I'm done playing by the rules, Gina. For 18 years, that's all I've ever done. I've never had to sit out at recess, I never went into detention, and I've never even gotten a scratch on myself."
"I know. The closest death experience you've ever had is when you fell off Ricky's wall. Other than that, you've been wearing protective gear whenever you go outside practically your entire life, and you've never even got bitten by a mosquito or an ant."
"Are your parents like that?" I asked Gina. "I think sometimes they are, but mostly they let me do what I want. I do live in my own apartment now." Gina was 20, two years older than me and probably a whole lot more mature.
Ricky's POV
"Dude, you haven't even known her for a week and you've already slept with her?!?"
Big Red was ranting at me about the whole Nini debacle. Sometimes, he could rant about TV shows, who won last night's football game, and a whole bunch of other stuff I never really paid attention to.
"Red, she's The One. I know it."
"The One. The One. So now, The One turns out to be your family's worst enemy and you're in love?!?! You could've picked any other girl in this entire city!? No, you're in love with the daughter of your worst rivals."
"Red, chill. I can sneak out tonight and get through her window."
I went to my window and tried to open it, but it was stuck. There was a lock on the side. Figures. "Do you have a hairpin?" I asked Red
"Why would I have a hairpin?"
"I can get one from my mom's room. I have to pick the lock. You distract my parents from going into the room, and I'll get the pin."
Red went outside. "Hey, Mr and Mrs Bowen! How are you? Would you like to hear about the time I burnt myself while trying to make pizza? You see, my parents are pizza makers. We originally came from Italy or was it Ireland? So..."
When I was sure that Big Red had occupied my parents' attention, I snuck into Mom's room and looked around for her cosmetic bag. When I found it on the dresser, I removed six hairpins. I'd always need extra. I managed to get out of the room and safely back into mine, where I attempted to pick the lock. I'd seen it in a movie before. These two kids were trapped in an escape room with a creepy clown and they couldn't find the key, so they picked the lock with a hairpin.
I groaned. The first pin broke so easily and snapped off into two pieces. I tried again. Nope, still no results. Third time's the charm, I told myself. I picked the lock and Voila! It actually worked.
I snuck out into the dark of the night and remembered to lock the door. I would be learning from that mistake. I climbed down the steep wall and went to the Roberts house.
