Here it is, ungrateful colonials, the ultimate and final chapter. This has truly been a ride; thank you to all who have taken this journey with me. As I say for one last time in this book...enjoy. Besides, I couldn't leave without properly closing up this tale...it's so short, I'm eternally sorry, but I have fitness testing and mocks next week. Once more, hope you enjoy it.

a tragic love story for the ages, spanning over a thousand years and a star-crossed couple, given a million second chances yet always failing to make the most of it

AH, WELCOME. I don't know why you happened upon this chapter of my book; you took a wrong turn. It's been on your reading list for a while now. Or you've just been wanting something else to read. First, let's take you back to the beginning. We're going to hit rewind—and here we are! But, be warned, children, there are many tales...and only one happy ever after. Or maybe; there may be no happily ever after in the end...or ever. If you wish to continue, I'd suggest you read something happier instead. Something that brings you joy, not this tragedy of woe.

The best stories should be able to make you feel deeply on your own, as the reader. They do not have a tag attached that says, "I am sad. You will cry," since the audience most certainly may not cry. As I am an author who aspires to make you, my audience, feel throughout this sorrowful chapter, I shall not say anything further and let you continue.

1548, an undisclosed location

THE FORMER QUEEN steadied her breath as the attendants tied a piece of cloth around her eyes, and she leaned over the wooden block. Her life was a mess. A horrible mess. If only she wasn't in line to one of the most acclaimed kingdoms in the world, expected to rule a goddamn country at the age of sixteen, and marched to her execution at twenty-three. Her childhood was far from idyllic, as a royal of her time should've been. Sure, she was trained in every aspect of being a princess, from writing, Latin, Greek, etiquette lessons...

When she was nine, some officers found her mothers were having an affair, they were declared witches and found guilty of treason. They were burned, right before her eyes, even as the young princess begged and pleaded endlessly. Since her father, the vile man who birthed her, wanted the throne for himself, he ordered her beloved mothers to be burned and charged for treason.

After the death of the queens, Nina had to be wed off to a duke; it was an arranged marriage, something she despised. Nini thought marriage and spending your life with someone would be of love, not because of an arrangement. However, in time, she grew to love him.

"We're going to be married," he said. "Couldn't we at least try to get along?"

"You are to be my husband in name only," she answered indignantly, crossing her arms. "It's archaic and foolish, really; a woman cannot rule a kingdom in her own right."

He gently reached up to take her hand, placing a kiss on her knuckles. "I promise, we will work through this together. You are the rightful heir to the kingdom, I am only a consort. I swear, as long as I live, to be faithful to you and only you, Nina."

Though what had begun as a merely political relationship soon evolved into love, Nini wished she had spent more time with him. Three years later, he was murdered by assassins in front of her eyes, and of course, she had to find a new husband.
