Nene's POV
Good friends, they say, are hard to find and when you meet such friends you must do well to appreciate them...
Lola and Soji proved to be more than just friends to L.D and i. They both went all out to ensure that we were up to date with our lectures and assignments.
They would send copies of all the topics that were taught in class and the assignments then L.D and i would read up and do the assignments and send them back for submission before the deadline. For L.D's lectures that required a compulsory attendance, Soji had to submit L.D's doctor's report and asked for leniency on his behalf.
Some of the lecturers who were kind, converted the 'compulsory attendance' to an assignment which must be submitted within a short period of time. While other strict lecturers insisted on recording 'an absent' or a 'Zero' on L.D's score sheet.
The good thing is that those 'missed-marks' were not much. So, L.D can make up for missing them by studying hard to passing his main examinations.
I was so glad when L.D's doctor declared him fit to resume school. We both looked forward to getting back to our school work and make up for the bit that we've missed.
On the day we decided to go back to campus, L.D insisted that i drive his car. I once told him that i knew how to drive but my parents and my elder brother refused to allow me drive any of their cars.
"Why will they do that? So, of what benefit is it? You learnt how to drive and that's it? No! You must drive my car today. Let me see how good your drive skills are. Come on, show me what you've got." L.D stretched his car key towards me.
I took it reluctantly and said:
"Are you sure? I hope you won't complain just the way my folks did?"
"What is there to complain about? I don't think your driving will be that bad. Come on, let's go. Let me see what you can do... Hit on the pedal, babe." L.D winked.
"Ok." I said shyly then we got into the car.
The moment i started driving, L.D leaped and held onto the car door handle with his two hands as if he was scared or something.
"Umm... are you alright, my love?" I said as i turned to look at L.D.
"HEY! EYES ON THE ROAD, BABE!!" L.D yelled with his eyes wide open, looking as scared as a kitten.
"Ooops! Oh my! I almost ran into that oncoming car! I'm sorry." I said with a shaky voice as i swerved back to my lane.
"Yy...yyes! You almost did..." L.D grit his teeth as he stretched his two hands upwards and placed them on the roof of the car.
I glanced at him and i felt so bad seeing him feel so uncomfortable as i drove.
'Am i doing something wrong?? Why is he feeling so jittery?' I pondered within me.
"My love, how's my driving? You don't like it?" I said slowly and sadly.
"Sure... sure... you... you... doing great... just... slow down... pl... please." L.D mumbled.
"What did you say?" I replied and turned to look at him.
"AUZUBILLAH!! Ye! SEE MOTOR OO!! Egba mi!! Oluwa oo! Temi ba mi leni!! Nene look you front ooo! I never wan die ooo!! PARK! PARK! STOP THE CAR...!" L.D kept on yelling and pointing towards an oncoming car.
(P.S: "AUZUBILLAH!! Ye! SEE MOTOR OO!! Egba mi!! Oluwa oo! Temi ba mi leni!! Nene look you front ooo! I never wan die ooo!!..."
