Ola's POV

▪▪▪ "Yes. Please, come in." The Doctor said. ▪▪▪

Lola and i walked into the office. I could feel Lola trembling. She trembled so bad that i had to grab her by her shoulder and pull her close to me for support.

"Miss Dele-Aina. So good to see you. How are you doing? Please, do have a seat."

"I'm doing fine sir. Thank you." Lola replied with a shaky voice as she sat down facing the Doc.

I sat next to Lola and we clasped our hands in anticipation... waiting to hear the news about Nene.

"I see you came with Mr Lanke-Davis... umm... how is he related to Miss Nene? Is he family?" The Doctor turned to my direction.

"He's a very good friend to the family... we brought Nene here... it's ok, Doc, you can proceed." Lola was so eager to hear the news.

"Oh... ok. Well, Nene is well out of danger and she is stable now..."

As if on cue, Lola and i exclaimed together with joy, interrupting the Doctor's speech:

"THANK YOU JESUS!" "THANK GOD!"

The Doctor chuckled and continued to say:

"Yes. So, it's a good thing you both brought her here quickly. She really lost a lot of blood but we were able to keep her stable. Right now, we have to wait for her to wake up... she... she is comatose... umm... what i mean is, she slipped into coma immediately after we stitched her up... We've administered three pints of blood already... and she's on another pint at the moment... that will bring the total to four pints of blood... i can categorically say she is fine at the moment...it's just that we need her to wake up. And another thing is... while i was stitching her up, i noticed the cut looks more like a self inflicted injury. I'd like to know how this came to be. Did she slit her throat?"

"She di..." I was about to answer affirmatively but Lola quickly interrupted me and said:

"She didn't!... She didn't slit her throat!... She fell on a broken glass!...down the stairs... It was an accident."

Lola squeezed our clasped hand so tight. I was so shocked at Lola's response so i turned to look at her but she kept her gaze solely on the Doctor without turning to look at me. I quickly understood her action and kept quiet.

"Really?! That can't be possible. It looks more like an attempted suicide than an accident. You do know that an attempted suicide is a crime and we, medical personnel have been given a directive to report such cases to the appropriate authorities. We are meant to hands off and..."

"IT IS NOT A SUICIDE CASE! IT'S AN ACCIDENT!" Lola snapped and broke down crying.

"Please, Doc. Please don't register this as an attempted suicide. It was an accident. Please." Lola pleaded.

"Miss Dele-Aina, in as much as i want to believe what you say, i'm still of the opinion that this is a suicide attempt. I pulled up Nene's data on our system and i realize that she's been visiting our clinical psychology department to see a therapist... and you initially registered her under your family card before she was re-registered under her own family card... we have the records... we have her medical history... so, tell me, is this an accident or a relapse?"

"Please Doc, you and i know what the authorities will do to her. They will lock her up in a mental institution under the guise that they want to rehabilitate her. She will be stigmatized... the society will victimize her... she will never get a decent job in this country after she is let out of the so called rehabilitation center. She will be tagged as being mentally unstable. Please Doc." Lola pleaded.
