Prue, Piper and Phoebe each wield an individual power of their very own, powers inherited from Melinda Warren and often shared by the other women in the family. For example, both Prue and Grams have the power of telekinesis and Piper takes after her mother in that Patty also has the power to freeze.
But what makes the sisters unique is that they also share a collective power, a synergistic magic born of their Charmed destiny and fuelled by their bond as sisters, magic known as The Power of Three.
It is the most powerful magic the world has ever known.
The Power of Three (PO3) is symbolised by the Triquetra, which is also the symbol of the Charmed Ones themselves and can be found on the front cover of the Book of Shadows as well as on Kit their pet cat's collar. The Triquetra represents three working as one — towards one goal and with one mind, which is the essence of the PO3.

In order to tap into the PO3 a witch must possess either Telekinesis, Molecular Immobilisation or the power of Premonition.
The PO3 was activated by Phoebe when she read the Dominus Trinus spell aloud, which restored the dormant power within the Charmed Ones themselves.
When a PO3 bond is activated, the chandelier in the Manor's sitting room shimmers with pure, sterling magic, bathing the entire room in bright blue light.

Most of the major spells within the BOS require the PO3 in order for them to work, which usually means all three sisters must be together reciting aloud in unison. However this is not always the case.
Though the PO3 is a shared, collective power amongst the Charmed Ones, its potency depends on their bond as sisters; the closer and more connected they are, the more powerful the PO3 is.

However, if this bond is broken (by using their magic on each other with ill intent), they will lose their powers and the PO3 as well. Thankfully the PO3 can be restored by reconnecting emotionally and strengthening their bond as sisters.
Since the PO3 has such incredible cogency, it can be used in several ways:
— offensively to vanquish enemies
— defensively to protect themselves from harm
— to augment spells or potions in order to make them stronger
— to restore the sisters' trust and belief in themselves and their magic
The PO3 affords the sisters a substantially higher resistance to offensive magic, allowing them to typically survive direct hits from magical assaults (like fireballs or energy balls etc) that would other wise have vanquished any other creature instantly.
Though it may be all-powerful, the PO3 can be severed permanently with the death of one of the sisters. Since it is a collective power shared amongst them, should one die, the entire collective would be lost.
