Details: Kit is female cat that is sometimes incorrectly referred to as male. She's quite beautiful with a gentle nature and an easy disposition. Kit began frequenting the Manor when Gram's health began to seriously deteriorate. Piper and Prue had no idea who she belonged to and eventually let her be.
Months later, Kit showed up again once again; right around the time the sisters had received their powers and this time, she never left. In fact, she fit in with the sisters perfectly since she wore a collar with the triquetra symbol round her neck.

Kit had acquired this distinct collar from her previous owner, a witch practitioner named Serena Fredericks who had been brutally murdered by Jeremy the warlock. Serena had a small tattoo of the triquetra on her chest, though her affiliation to the symbol was never revealed.
Kit was not just the Halliwell's pet cat, but their familiar as well. Familiars are enchanted animals who guide and protect new witches as they learn the craft. They can be birds, frogs or even snakes, but usually appear in the form of cats since felines are innately magical, with black cats especially so.
Cats can see ghosts and spirits, recognise warlocks and demons (no matter what form they may assume) and they are the only animals who are able to freely enter and exit a magic circle of protection without breaking its barrier.

Early on in the season, Kit found herself with numerous, unwanted tomcat suitors thanks to Phoebe and Piper's Love Spell that had affected her as well.
She was a perfect familiar who protected her charges to the best of her ability, such as when she prevented Prue from being indecently exposed to the warlock Rex Buckland, whose astral form was invisible to all save Kit. Her incessant hissing and fussing forced Rex to eventually give up and disappear back to his body.

Kit also helped Andy confirm his suspicions that Rodriguez might've been a demon by hissing each time Rodriguez passed her on his way in to the Manor to kill the sisters. The final time Rodriguez was pissed off enough to glare back at Kit with his real eyes — red and demonic — which Andy saw and immediately sprung into action to help.
