QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER: when's your birthday?

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

"Don't you think it's time to give up?"

"Never"

"Never is a really long time"

"Shut up, nerd"

"I'm just saying..."

"Yeah yeah, whatever"

"Hey, guess what..."

"What?"

"Checkmate"

"Huh?" she exclaimed frustrated "How? Where? When? Why?"

The boy chuckled, the expression of disbelief on Thaleia's face as she looked at the chess board only making him laugh harder.

His wound began hurting, the pain causing him to cough and the cough bringing more pain.

"That's Karma... for laughing at me" she said as she stood up to grab the glass of water that was sitting on the coffee table in front of them. The Doctor took a sip, calming down after a few seconds.

"Did you know, the word kárman means 'work' or 'deed', is often used in the context of  rituals. In the Rigveda, the word occurs some 40 times. In Satapatha Brahmana 1.7.1.5, sacrifice is declared as the "greatest" of works; Satapatha Brahmana 10.1.4.1 associates the potential of becoming -amara- with the karma of the  sacrifice"

"Yeah I know... and Buddhists allowed karma transfer from one person to another, while Hindu schools and Jainism don't" Spencer looked at her with an eyebrow raised "Bachelor in Asian studies, remember?"

"True" he drank a bit more water "What do you wanna do now?" Thaleia was still looking at the chess board frowning "Come on, I've won seventeen out of the seventeen times we've played... and it's not even 8am! I love chess, but even I am getting bored"

"I have to win at least once!"

"You won't today!" he laughed "So let's do something else"

The girl groaned, bit letting out a huff, she agreed, leaning back on the couch with arms crossed over her chest "Any ideas?"

He thought for a moment, balancing the possibilities of what he wanted to do and what he could actually do because of the injury. It had been a little over two weeks, and even though he was able to walk by himself, stand up and to minimal lifting -not that Thaleia allowed him to do much of those-, there were still many things that he couldn't do.

Reid really wanted to take care so he would heal faster and get back on the field as soon as possible. He had come to the conclusion that, if he got better sooner than what the doctor had told him to rest, maybe he would be let out before what was planned.

"Making the costumes really got me in the Halloween mood... we could watch some scary movies, like Halloween, The Shinning, Elm Street, Sleepy Hollow, I know what you did last summer, Scream..."

"Casper, Hocus Pocus, the Haunted mansion, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Monster House..."

Spencer looked at her with a small smile, holding in a laugh "I have the feeling you're not so much into horror movies"

"Oh my, what gave it away?" he laughed at her comment.

"You see so many things working in this kind of job, you should be immune to those types of movies!"
