To the Ones Who Have Shaped Me

Well this is unexpected
For I am often not one to show,
Any sort of affection
Through the hugs and hellos.

But perhaps I really should just say this:
To the people that have stuck by me
Through both my highs and lows,
And have accepted me for my ways
Despite all of the oddness and the mess,
You are more than just amazing,
And I genuinely hope you know that.

I know that my sarcasm
And somewhat aloof personality
Can often times hinder
Our amusingly sentimental
And long, long chats.
Therefore I am writing this
To show you that you indeed do matter,
Even if I am just plain awful
At showing you that.

So,
From the very bottom of my heart,
I am thanking you once again.
For always being with me,
For always taking me as I am.
I am now a better person,
One with a little more brain,
For you have always gently pointed out
My wrongdoings and slip-ups
Without any sort of harsh judgments
And most importantly,
Without any doubts being made.

And thank you once again
For never questioning me on my decisions.
(Even the ones made on a whim)
For it shows you have trust in me,
And I am eternally grateful for it.
Also, I would like to say
(Although this I think you already know)
I will always have your back,
No matter the distance,
No matter the circumstance.
Perhaps this was not my best,
But you know how I struggle to express.
Hopefully one day
I will be able to say the rest.
But as for now my unlikely message for you,
Has come to an end.

But I do have something,
Just one more thing,
I would like to share.

To those who have tried to change me,
I must say you have failed.
For yes I will proceed with the tattoos
And the changes with my hair
And even with the styling of my clothes.
For I will not bend over backwards
Just for you to accept
And to stare me as though
I was some sort of clown in a circus
Putting on a silly act.
For no,
I do not need to amuse you
Or to be approved by you,
Or to make you clap.

For I am my own being
(Yes, the people who have stuck by me taught me that)
And I think it would be fair to say
With the absence of your face,
I am incredibly happy
With where I am now at.
