For I Am A Woman

I have been told
That a woman
Was only meant to bear children
Even if she never wanted them

I have been told
That a woman
Was only meant to do the house chores
And watch over the children
And cook and clean and mend

I have been told
That a woman
Is of nothing
Except to be used as an object
In the bedroom,
Only used to please men.

But
I have told myself
That as a Woman
I am so much more than just that,
Because I too
Am human,
And I am Brave,
And I am Strong,
And I am Witty,
And I am Clever,
And I am Confident,
And I am so much more
Than just meant to be perceived as someone
Who simply just sits there
To look pretty for society
To gawk at

For I am a Woman,
The strength and pillar of myself
Paving my way up the stairs,
Slowly and steadily
With my head held high
Unapologetic
For being who I am.
