Trust me when I say
I have failed in doing Maths
More than just time and time again.
I know how it feels like
To be beaten in an exam
By more than just
Several other men
And I used to feel ashamed
(Or more like I was shamed into feeling that way)
For I did not want to become a doctor,
Or a lawyer,
Or an engineer,
Or any other occupation where my family would nod at and approve and finally say,
"Okay, go ahead my dear."
And I would work myself to the brink of death
Tears streaming down my face as I clenched my pen
Trying to solve some ridiculous seven-mark question
My mind unable to comprehend
The equations used for probability and algebra and geometry
My mind simply unable to figure out
What on Earth "x" meant
And after many arguments and fights
Which would always drag out long into the nights
Finally,
Finally,
(Despite the disapproving looks given,
The ones of pure disdain)
Was I no longer trapped by the people of my own blood
In making a choice which should have been mine in the first place.
And so,
Let this be a message
To the ones who look down upon us
And say that the Arts is only of uselessness,
For allow me tell you this:
The Arts and the Sciences do not have much of a difference
For it is the imagination and the creativity of the mind that is needed
In order for you to put two and two together and play society's silly little games,
For it is the imagination and the creativity of the mind that is needed
In order for you to truly succeed.
