Chapter Thirty Five

"Okay Kailen Bardley, I'm Dr. Jones," an older woman held out her hand for me to shake it and I just looked at it.

"Kallie, call me Kallie," I sat in the chair across from her.

"Well your mother is a long time friend of mine and she told me about what had happened and your changes in behavior but I want you to tell me what's been going on," she sat and waited for me to open up.

"I don't need a stranger to expect me to open up like a book and tell my story. I can handle myself thank you," I crossed my arms and looked out the window.

"So we're going this route then, okay we can sit here until your time is up and if you want to talk then I'm here to listen," we sat in silence for awhile and I rolled my eyes.

My phone started vibrating and I looked down and saw Alec calling. I hit ignore and he called again and I put my phone on do not disturb.

"Phone call? Did you want to take it?" she asked.

"Nope," I popped the p.

"Your mother told me you'd be closed off," she said out loud, "I just didn't think she'd be right."

"You should honestly listen to her next time."

"Alright how about this, I give you a sentence and you finish the rest of the story? Sounds good?"

"No, I liked sitting in silence better," I bit back.

"So you're the suffering in silence type," she raised a brow as she jotted something down.

"I'm not suffering, I'm perfectly fine," I rolled my eyes at this whole idea of talking to her about my problems.

"Fine? I've heard that before you know. I've been doing this for almost thirty years. You're not the first one who used the word fine and was defiant in talking about what's been going on in your personal life. I can help you cope with it. I can teach you, I just need you to open up. Can you do that for me?"

"No, I don't need help. I just want to leave," I sighed.

"I'm not stopping you," she sat up, "you want to leave then leave. I didn't make you walk in, you came in free willingly."

"My moms paying for the session," I looked up at the ceiling.

"Okay then don't let her money go to waste and talk to me," she motioned me to continue.

"I know you're just doing your job but let me tell you something," I looked at her and she waited for an answer, "at the end of the day whatever you say to me, whatever advice you give to me I'll be the one working on myself if I want. But you'll be getting paid for giving out advice. I can get anyone's advice from anyone for free so why should I sit here and talk to you?"

"Then leave," she looked drained from talking to me and I got up and walked to the door.

"Thanks for the talk Dr. Jones I feel so freshed," I shook my head and left.

"How was it?" my mom asked looking up from her coffee and paused her tv show.

"I left early, it wasn't best fit for me to sit in a room with a stranger and talk to her about my problems," I put my keys on the island and saw Alec's name on one of the pieces of mail.

"Oh so Marissa is staying with us because of the incident last night," she didn't sound happy about the whole idea.

"Are you okay with that?" I asked and she shrugged.
