Chapter Five
"What are you doing home already?" Alec looked up from whatever he was making.
"Why are you wearing that?" I changed the subject but Alec pushed.
"My mom's son made it and I wear it so I don't get food on my nice clothes, now what are you doing home. I was supposed to get you at ten thirty tonight."
"I got fired," I shrugged my shoulders like it was no big deal but it was a big deal.
"Who brought you home?" he asked, still not focusing on his food.
I washed my hands, "Will was driving me to work and they told me don't even bother, pick up my check by the end of the week and that was it. Will took me home and told me how sorry he was for it."
"Did you tell him you had work?" Alec continued with the questions.
I dried my hands and put my hair in a low ponytail and out of my face.
"Yes, more than once but he just didn't want to hear it," I looked over at Alec who was back to cutting the green pepper.
"What did you guys go do at his house that was more important than getting you to work?" Alec knew the answer; he just wanted me to say it.
"I don't want to talk about it," I grabbed a knife out of the drawer and a plate so I could cut the onion sitting out.
"Do you even know what we're cooking?" he asked.
"Nope," I said, popping the p at the end.
Alec got behind me and took a knife out of my hands and turned me around to face him.
"Kallie," he looked at me knowingly.
I released the breath I didn't even know I was holding, "Why'd you take the knife from my hand?" I asked.
"I don't want you killing me when I say this," he took in a deep breath, "you can't keep letting Will use you like you do and I know you see him not being a boyfriend but I feel like ever since your dad left the picture, you get yourself the worst guys because you think you deserve shit," he waited for me to explode.
"You should stop talking because you were no prince charming and even if you were I can't drop everything to be with you when we both know my mom and your dad are happy. I'm not messing that up."
"It's not illegal," he smirked.
"But it's an unspoken rule," I responded.
"We didn't always have sex," he said it so loudly that I looked over my shoulder in fear.
"Alec your sister might hear you!" I hissed out.
"She's not home, she's over at her friends for the night." he grinned widely.
"Oh no," I shook my head, "I can't be alone with you!" I pulled my hair back.
"Why because you might fall in love with me?" Alec had a stupid grin on his face.
"No, because I have Will and I'm happy and everything is okay right now," he put his hand under my chin to make me look at him.
"Kallie, why do you keep trying to trust the words you say?" he asked so smoothly.
"Because if I stop, I'll fall apart and if I fall apart then I'll have to admit the truth to the fact that I still love you."
My eyes shot open and I looked at the time, six twenty in the evening appeared on my phone and I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs.
