Chapter Seven

He stopped at where the tracks were, the few times I had gone was only to cheer on Will. When Alec and I were in a complicated relationship I didn't know much about him. When Will and I started dating I recognized Alec from afar and he recognized me but ignored that he did. I was only Will's trophy though, I always felt that way when he got first in the races that Alec and him didn't run together. I remember seeing them both race once, Will was furious that night, he kept trash talking and throwing a fit.

"It's been awhile, are you racing tonight?" I looked over at him and the crowd of people on the sidelines watching the two cars.

"No not tonight, I come here to watch the other racers. Kind of like me researching. Understanding my opponents, I look for their perfections and flaws in races," he walked towards an open area.

"Have you raced either of them?" I looked over at him.

The sun had already set but the little light there was you could still tell the colors of the cars.

"That one right there, the blue one, he doesn't drift as soon as he should and because of that his gliding always end up off the tracks which causes him to lose time but is good for me mostly because I mastered that,"

"Such a big ego," I rolled my eyes.

"Oh, Alec are you not racing tonight?" an older guy came up to him.

"Ricky," Alec smiled at him, "no I was just seeing how well things were doing. I haven't been here in almost a month. I got busy and a little rusty so I needed to check to see if I was still on my A game."

"Well Martin was shit talking about how well he would race you, said some shit about you not showing up because you're a bitch. I laughed in his face because I know you practice even when you're not here," Ricky patted Alec's back.

"Tell Martin if he wants to race, hell I will," Alec nodded toward Ricky.

"I'll tell him kid, nice to see you again Miss," he lifted his cowboy hat and nodded before walking away, "Oh and don't be a stranger come to the shop anytime!"

"He knows me?" I looked at Alec hoping for an explanation.

"He's good with faces, just the people he sees them with is a little fuzzy," Alec smiled.

"Are you really going to race?" I asked out loud.

"If Martin wants to then yeah," Alec leaned on the fence and looked away from the race and towards me, but mostly looking behind me.

I heard drunk guys walk past us, "damn look at that fine ass."

Alec looked down at his phone and I stepped towards him mostly in fear. Since the Steven incident I've been so observant of my surroundings. I was afraid of what would happen next, or who else would want to strike on someone who seemed so vulnerable.

"How long have you been racing?" I asked, trying to ignore the constant chattering from behind me.

"Since finding a love for working on a car," he said it so short, almost like opening up to me sounded like trouble.

"Oh, that's nice," I looked away from him and on the track, almost questioning why he never actually talked to me.

Someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me forward and I instantly looked into those familiar brown eyes.

"What was that for?" I was confused.

"Those guys talk about you like you're a piece of meat, it was pissing me off," he said sourly.
