Chapter Eleven

My mom and Matt have been home for not only five hours and they already seem more in love since coming back than they were before. My moms smiling like she always has towards Matt and he's cooking dinner and chatting with her about the upcoming wedding. I wonder if they forgot that they left their kids at home together? They haven't conversated much with us and Alec and I are looking back at each other confused as what to do to make them shut up.

"Oh Kallie, your mom was talking about Will. You should invite him to dinner. If it's not too late. We'd love to have him. I want to get to know him a little bit more. I know your mom isn't particularly," he paused to find a nicer way to basically my mom thinks my boyfriends an ass, "fond of Will but I do think it would be nice to get to know him." he wasn't looking at me but Alec was, waiting for an excuse to pop up.

"I can see if he's busy," I ignored Alec's questionable eyes and grabbed my phone seeing his unread messages.

"Call him honey, I should be the one asking. Giving him another shot," my mom looked at me apologetically for mistreating him but maybe she had a right to, maybe she knew all along he was dangerous.

"I don't think that's necessary," I shook my head, "I'll just text him mom. See if he can make it or not. No biggie." I felt my anxiety start to rise and I knew both of them looked past it, but Alec. Alec could read every body shift, every sideways glance and know. He was always observant and being around him for the time they were gone, he got to see me go down my slippery slope more than once. But he was always trying to catch me before I got to the bottom.

"I think it's a great idea!" Matt butted in, almost looking more excited than my mom was.

"Call him honey," my mom smiled expecting me to call him with the same excitement.

Alec started to try to back me up but my phone beat him to it, with Will's phone call.

"Oh it's him!" my mom snatched my phone from my hands and I lunged for it but it was too late. It was already pressed against her ear and she started to speak into the phone while going to another room with Matt.

"Oh my gosh," I looked at Alec who was just as stunned as I was.

"My dads going to love him," Alec said out loud.

"Why do you say that?" I ask hoping for a logical reason.

"He's the worst judge of character. One of the reasons my dad and mom divorced." Just hearing Alec bring up his parents' separation surprised me. He usually would stay away from the subject as much as he possibly could. He was never an open book, never talked much about her. He was the one always hiding secrets, always just hiding.

I wanted to ask, but I also knew Alec and his way of shutting down a conversation before it could actually really start.

Charlotte walked into the kitchen and glared at me, I wondered why she hated me. What I possibly had done to piss her off but I also didn't care as much as I should about how she felt towards me.

Both Matt and my mom walked in before I could ask Charlotte what her problem was with me and they handed me my phone with big smiles.

"He said he'd be more than happy to come and have dinner with us," Matt grinned wider than I had ever seen him grin.

"Kallie, Alec could you help cut the vegetables please while Matt and I pick up some things from the store?" my mom asked instantly and I looked at Alec almost a fast recollection of my dream from before.

"Sure," Alec responded faster than I could speak and both of them went out the door faster than they usually would on any other day.

"I'm going over to Kelsey's for a little while. I'll be back before dinner don't worry," Charlotte grabbed her bag before hearing an answer to her unasked question.
