Chapter Thirty Six

"Well?" Matt looked at Alec at the dinner table with everyone listening, "what did the letter say?"

"I was accepted into Michigan State University," Alec eyed me for a second before looking at his parents.

"That's amazing!" his mom smiled at him.

"Kallie got accepted in big colleges," my mom commented.

"That's awesome Alec!" I smiled at him, "are you going to go?" I asked him.

"I was thinking about it, it's a great school for automotive engineering."

I wasn't surprised about the fact that he wants to work with cars and stuff like that.

"What about you Kallie? Have you decided yet on your college?" Matt asked, now turning the question on me.

"She wants to be as far as possible from us," my mom grabbed his hand.

"I haven't decided yet," I ate my food now not wanting to talk about colleges now.

"Well what do you want to do with your life?" Marissa then asked.

"I don't know, I just worked so hard on my grades that I never really took a chance to see what I liked to do."

"You can go anywhere in the world and you don't know where you want to go?" this voice came elsewhere and I looked up and saw my father standing there, hands in his pockets and looking at me.

"Oh," my mom stood up surprised, "Henry I told you that now's not the best time."

"Well there was one thing I wanted to look into actually," I glared at him.

"What's that?" Marissa asked oblivious of the tension in the room.

"Social work, more down to children who get abused and ways to protect them."

Alec grabbed my hand under the table and I knew he wanted me to look at him but I couldn't.

"I think we need a lot of people like that here, so many children grow up and are so broken, they need that saving. I think that's an excellent idea. What do you think Matt?" Marissa looked at her ex husband and he nodded turning his attention back on eating.

"Charlie please grab a plate for Mr. Bradley. I'm taking it that he's eating with us. Alec a chair perhaps?" Matt looked at his two children and Alec squeezed my hand before getting up and doing as he was asked along with Charlie who rolled her eyes in the process.

"It's been awhile Kailen," he smiled at me and I looked down at my plate trying to remain calm, "you've grown up while I've been gone."

"You should've stayed gone," I said under my breath and my mom glared at me across the table.

"May I sit by you? I'm sure Matt's son wouldn't mind would you, Alec is it?" he looked at Alec and Alec was about to be kind but I interject.

"He wouldn't but I would," I glared at my father and he sighed.

"Kailen," I interrupted him and corrected him.

"It's Kallie," I was going to fight him if I had too.

"Not what your birth certificate says, both your mother and I agreed on Kailen and I will not call you by your nickname because you ask me too," he sat across the table from me and sat by Marissa who seemed unbothered with Charlie right next to her.

Alec sat back down next to me and grabbed my hand again to stop me from throwing more hate towards him.

"You have a lovely home Matt, very beautiful, Sarah was showing me around while you were away and my dear daughter didn't show for dinner as a family. I was very fond of you and her bedroom, the bed was very comfortable," he smiled a mischievous smile.
