Chapter Thirty Nine
Three weeks, three weeks cleaning out the house and moving to another town house. I'm imprisoned with my mother who won't say a word to me but will glare at me occasionally and mutter under her breath. I've barely been able to even talk to Alec, let alone see him. She's busied me, grounded me for a month, no seeing people, no leaving the house, I have school, work home. The first couple of days of work Alec wasn't working. I've been grounded from my phone, I barely even get to sit in peace. I'm working around the townhouse and unpacking boxes that my mother won't. My father has come by and tried to speak to me, I usually don't say much. I know he gets tired when I don't because then he'll go to my mother and she'll laugh at his jokes and smile like she once did. I don't pay much attention to them. I feel like a princess stuck in my castle stuck with a witch and her stray cat who comes around when he pleases.
I was cleaning the counter when my mom walked in with a dog that Matt had gotten her before the break up.
"Mom what are you doing with the dog?" I was confused with the idea of her having a dog.
"I dropped some stuff off at his house and he told me to take Pickles, he said it might help you. I agreed plus it makes you come home," I looked at Pickles and smiled at the pitbull pup before she ran towards me.
"Hey babes," I laughed hugging her.
"Another thing I brought I won't let in the house. I didn't bring it really, it brought itself and won't leave. I don't approve but I want it to leave. I'm giving you ten minutes and then you come back in. Not longer than ten minutes or you're grounded again, you hear me?" she looked at me.
I was confused before I set Pickles down and went towards the front door.
"Alec!" I exclaimed running into his arms.
His arms wrapped around me and he hugged me tightly, "fuck Kailen I didn't know this would be so brutal," he whispered.
"Just one more week," I responded back, "and you've seen me."
"Not like this, I couldn't sleep for a fucking week when you left. I've barely stayed sane but this is so much better."
I pulled away so I could see his face, "only for ten minutes."
"She threatened to call the cops," he said.
"She's not that bad," I smiled but Alec touched my cheek where I was almost slapped weeks before.
"She can be to you," he whispered, "I just wish I could take you out of this house. She's punishing you for something you can't control and you eventually told. It wasn't like she found out," Alec was still very upset with my punishment but I shook my head.
"She's just hurting Alec, she was supposed to get married in a few weeks and this bombshell blows up in front of her, your father loves you enough to give up my mom and his marriage."
He scoffed, "it was my mom who changed his mind, but he also hated how your mom treated you. So I guess he decided all on his own. I don't know, we've barely talked. But I'm not grounded so I don't really know what the hell is going on right now."
"Okay but beside all of this how are you really?" I looked up at him worried.
"Better now, for another eight minutes," he hugged me again like being around me was never enough, "After this grounding we are going on a date," he muttered.
"Kailen what the hell are you doing out of the house!" my dad yelled while walking towards the townhouse.
I pulled away a little and Alec kept his hands on my waist and eyed my dad. They never got on the right foot. After him announcing that he slept with my mom in her and Matt's bedroom things never settled.
