VENUS' VISION WAS BLURRY. THE SWEAT DRIPPED FROM HER FOREHEAD as she clutched the wound on her shoulder tightly, but that didn't stop the blood that oozed from the wound.

Nevertheless, Venus had one thing on her mind, and one thing only — she had to get to Thomas.

He was on his way toward Teresa, Venus knew that — she knew Thomas like the back of her hand, and this was only because he was almost just like herself. He's broken, and Newt's death only a few minutes prior was enough to push him off the edge and this resulted in him not thinking straight.

Venus knew that what Teresa had said weighed heavily on Thomas, and upon mentioning that Thomas could have cured Newt, Venus knew that he now had the thought that as he couldn't save Newt, maybe he could save everyone else.

Thus is why the girl had to go after him — Venus had to be by his side, she had to talk to him, he'd listen to her, she was sure of it.

The death of Newt was something that completely shuttered Venus' heart — she wished she could have saved him, she wished that he was immune. The thing is that, even though Venus considered Newt as one of her best friends, she didn't know him like Thomas nor Minho. The three of them had been together from the start, and Newt was not only their friend, he was Thomas and Minho's brother, and losing a brother was like losing a part of yourself.

Soon, the main building of the last city came into view — Venus knew that's where Teresa was, and where Thomas was headed. It was the same building where WICKED had kept the immunes.

Venus hurried towards the building as fast as she could, and the wound on her shoulder that still oozed with blood only slowed her down.

Venus tried to control her ragged breathing as she now pushed open the large glass doors of the building, she didn't know what waited for her inside the building — more WICKED guards, or worse, Janson.

However, the girl had to simply risk it, she had to get to Thomas.

When the glass doors slammed shut behind her, Venus turned her gaze to the right, and what she saw was something that shook her to the core.

Janson stood behind the lifeless body of Ava Paige, as her blood pooled out from the bullet wound — Janson had shot her, and his gun was raised toward Thomas who's back was toward Venus.

The girl's eyes widened at the sight and then, her gaze caught the handgun that layed next to Thomas' foot.

She had to do something, but when Janson had taken the liberty to make the first move as he plunged a syringe into Thomas' neck, Venus was frozen in her spot, her eyes following Thomas' body as he collapsed to the ground, and then, Janson's gaze was on her.

"Venus." He called her name, and the girl tightly clenched her jaw, "I didn't think you'd come this far." Janson now neared her, but Venus stood her ground, standing up straight as she glared at the rat man.

"Well — it's clear that you thought wrong." She spoke with distaste as she placed more pressure on the wound on her shoulder. She didn't want to show Janson she was weak, thus, she tried pushing the excrutiating pain aside as her gaze remained on Janson who now only stood a few metres from her.

"We could have been a great team — but then you had to go and betray us." Janson's gun was raised toward Venus as he harshly spoke to her. "A great team ?" Venus mocked, "you have been killing innocent people! You are monsters!" Venus raised her voice as she spoke, the anger bubbling inside her.

"It's for the greater good." Janson told her, as he smirked at her. "You know Venus — I really thought you were on our side. I raised you, Venus, you were like a daughter to me."

Janson's words only angered her more. How dare he say that ? He had only ever yelled at her, seeking out her mistakes when she worked at WICKED, he never trusted her, he had never even taken the time to really get to know her.

"You were awful to me Janson — you treated me like shit. I did everything you ever asked of me when I worked at WICKED, and you never even took the liberty to thank me, and I then realised it's because you're the bad guy, you have always been the bad guy." Venus' voice was filled with frustration as she nearly yelled at Janson. The rat man had a mocking grin on his features, and then, Venus' eyes caught onto something.

Thick veins stood out from Janson's neck — it looked like the veins that spread across Newt's face, and the veins that were splattered across Winston's stomach where the cranks clawed him.

And then it hit Venus. Janson was infected with the virus. He had the flare, and he was turning into a crank.

Venus' mind the traveled to what Teresa had said about Thomas' blood— about him being able to save everyone.

Janson wanted Thomas' blood for himself so that he could save himself, and when he got what he wanted, Venus was sure that he'd kill Thomas and Teresa.

"You're — you're infected." Venus mumbled out, her blue eyes staring at the sick man in front of her, and for the first time, Janson wasn't wearing that mocking grin, he wasn't a step ahead anymore. Janson had a stone expression on his face at Venus' words, and the girl watched as Janson now tightened his grip on the handgun, it still being aimed at Venus.

"I have to admit — I've never really thought much of you, but you are smart. And being smart, well, that's a dangerous thing." Janson spoke, his gun never dropping as he intently stared at Venus, and before she could retaliate, Janson then aimed the gun at her stomach, and when the gun shot echoed throughout the empty building, Venus stared down at the blood stain on her shirt that grew by the second.

She stared up at Janson in complete and utter shock, the tears spilling from her eyes as an excrutiating pain now shot through her entire body and Venus fell to her knees — clutching the wound on her stomach.

"What — what did you — what did you do?" She choked out, her blue eyes wide as Janson lowered the gun to his side.

"What I had to." Janson told her, and tben, Venus fell flat on her stomach, she could her heart pounding as the tears dripped from her eyes.

Her breathing was short, and she tried her best to calm herself down and to stay awake. She knew that if she closed her eyes, she wouldn't be able to open them again, but she was so tired — so, so tired, and maybe, closing her eyes would be for the best.
