MAY WASN'T GOING TO LIE, SHE FOUND IT A BIT FUNNY, and strange they were hiding in the uncomfortable woods, as it was not the first thing on her to-do list when getting back to earth. first, she wanted to reunite with her friends, and abby, and hug them forever never wanting to let go. the second thing would be to find a place to live, and settle there with her daughter. but of course, as always, things weren't going to plan.
the twenty-four year old mother was sitting on a rock that was the equal size for a chair, eating a handful of berries in the dark. the young girl, madi, had lended some to her and nini, which she couldn't be more thankful for as she was hungry.
may was snapped out of her lone trance by the fact nini had taken a seat next to her, smiled, and then plucked a berry out of her mother's hand. the twenty-four year old rolled her eyes, and pulled nini into a side hug.
suddenly, a thought had popped into may's mind, and thought it would be best to bring it up to her daughter now, "harper told me you got in a feud with john before we left that ship." she stated calmly, "care to tell me what happened?"
nini looked at her mother before averting her gaze away, it's not like she wouldn't expect her mom to find out, it was the fact that she was bringing it up. the twelve year old sighed, before giving in, "he came up to say hi to me, and called me little nymph. then i went off on him." the two shared a quick giggle together.
may began rubbing her daughter's back in circles, as she knew nini found comfort in it just like her mother, "and why did you get angry? did he say anything else?"
nini shrugged nonchalantly, "just that he knows i hate him and was sorry." she looked up at may, "because of what he did i guess i just got angry of him being near me again." she chewed on her lip nervously, deciding to ask a different question she was curious about, "would you ever get back with him?"
that was a question may had asked herself many times ever since he left, something she didn't know the answer to, as she still was so madly in love with him she felt sick when thinking about him. he had raised nini with her, murphy was like her father, and then he left, just like that.
may remembered waking up in the middle of the night to murphy being gone, and all that was left was a note on their nightstand table,
i can't do this, i'm sorry.
may never found out the real reason he left, or why he had done it in the first place, as she didn't wanna go chasing after him. he had quit on their relationship, and may had a little girl to raise, and that was that.
she looked up at nini, and shrugged, her mind flashing back to the thousands of memories her and murphy had, "i don't know."
may begun to feel emotional like she did when he first left, and knew she had to be alone. "i'll be back." she told her daughter, before standing up and marching away with quickness in her step. when she made it to the rover, she hopped in the back, and as soon as she shut it, she busted into tears.
john murphy, how could maybella fernsby express her love for that man? easy, there were so many ways it would be shocking. she fell for him hard, and when he left, he'd taken a piece of her heart as well.
even if she acted distant, or cold towards him, maybella knew she loved him, she just wished she knew if he did too.
the rover door had suddenly been ripped open quickly, so quick that it made may jump out of her seat. on the other side, it was murphy, somebody she didn't expect to see. they made eye contact, and murphy began to grow concerned as he saw her crying, only echo pushed him in further, rushing him inside.
may sniffled, before wiping away her tears. she didn't know what was happening, but expected one of them to fill her in on what she missed while she broke down.

"mom!" nini called out to may in a frantic tone, worried to be separated from her, the woman that had raised her.
may placed a quick kiss on her forehead, "i'll see you soon, "ai gonplei nou ste odon."
and before may knew it, she was stuck inside a cave with the one and only john murphy. she didn't know why she volunteered to leave with him, but her heart told her she had to, or else she'd never forgive herself.
murphy had a shock collar around his neck, and couldn't go a certain proximity without setting it off. so they took cover in a cave, and may was struggling to get it off, as the man kept flinching.
"what the hell do you know about this kind of stuff?" murphy questioned may, genuinely curious as to how a surgeon would know anything about mechanics.
may felt her heart begin to thump faster just at the fact he was talking to her. she sighed, and looked into the glowing fire that illuminated the small cave. "not much to do in space." she explained to him, going back to look at the electric collar, "nini wanted me to do something with my life while we were up there, so i did, something i can't say you'd ever have the balls to do."
murphy rolled his eyes, deciding it were best not to reply to may's snarky comment, "that little nymph." murphy began, referring to nini, "she's grown a bit since the last time i saw her. a few inches shorter than you."
may began to feel a fiery feeling grow in her chest, a feeling she recognized when she'd get irritated, "you don't get to call her that." she demanded through gritted teeth, "you don't get to claim her as if she's still yours."
murphy scoffed, and looked to may, "but she is."
at that comment, may exploded, and jumped up to her feet, "oh really? if she's still yours then—why did you leave?"
murphy sighed, and stood up from his crouched position slowly. he faced may, "i had my reasons."
may scoffed at murphy's response, finding it idiotic, "oh really? reasons you were too pussy to say to my face that you had to leave a note instead?"
"i'm sorry, okay?"
"sorry isn't good enough when what you did has made me cry every single night since YOU left."
silence fell upon the two souls like a veil, the two engaging with hard eye contact, as none of them knew what to think, yet they were thinking the same.
they still loved each other, even if the other didn't know it.
