∘◦ ✾ ◦∘_______ ∘◦ ✾ ◦∘EVER SINCE MAY'S FATHER DIED SHE'S CONSTANTLY HAD THIS FEELING, this feeling as if she were drowning, or stuck in one place with nowhere to go, that her boots were stuck in quick sand and time was running out before she'd get swallowed whole. because of that, claustrophobia started to take over some parts of her life as well.
small, enclosed spaces, may absolutely despised them, and freaked her out more than anything. yet now, her worst fear had come true, and there was nothing she could do about it.
she was stuck in a small underground cave as wide as her height, and tall enough for them to only crouch. her and murphy sat on opposite sides of the stone wall, both of them deep in their own thoughts. it had been about two hours since they took cover in there, and they were waiting for the dark cave to be lit up with sun again, where they would know it was safe to finally come out.
may was freezing cold, the one time she didn't bring her jacket, she would need it. she had her arms tucked inside her loose grey tee, with her legs curled up to her chest. it probably wasn't a good idea anyway not to bring my jacket, she thought, knowing her healed but bumpy self harm scars were visibly there, anyone could see it, and that made her nervous.
murphy abruptly snapped out of his daze, to look up and see may chattering her teeth from the cold. "here." he told her, throwing off his jacket, "take it."
she glanced at it before meeting eyes with him, "john really—you don't have to. i—i'll be fine." he looked at her once again, who was still shivering like crazy. he snorted, "yeah, because you're perfectly fine, aren't you?" he gestured his jacket closer to her, "take it, before i put it on you myself."
she glanced at him once more before letting her pale hand grab ahold of the jacket, laying it on herself instead of sliding her arms in the sleeves. the jacket was already warm from his body heat, which made her shivering simmer down.
minutes went by as silence fell on them, where may took the time to let the jacket warm herself up. when her chattering teeth finally stopped, with goosebumps lingering on her arms, she looked up at the boy across from her, "thank you."
he lifted his gaze from the stone cold ground to her eyes, which he found beautiful, and he didn't really know why. "you're welcome, doctor." but his mind was set on a curious question he wanted to ask the girl, "tell me, why're you so forgiving? and always take off and so dead set on taking care of others?"
