may fernsby never realized how cruel, and selfish others could be. she never realized how much the emotions of sadness and hurt could replay like a broken record right in front of her eyes. she never realized how different mental and physical pain were. she never realized how much loss was a constant thing, until after she set foot on the ground.

the compassionate seventeen year old was born to loving parents, jenna and quint fernsby. growing up on the ark was just as normal as any other teen for may, she constantly volunteered in the med bay with a desire to be a surgeon, just the after feeling of taking care of others always made her feel like she had a purpose, especially after her father succumbed to a sudden illness when she was just thirteen.

everything changed after that, slitting her fragile wrist was a constant thing, it helped her relieve the pain of loosing someone she loved, but one day, she cut too deep. her mother found her, bleeding out on the bathroom floors of their home, she nearly didn't make it either, the main cause of her nearly loosing her life was anemia.

anemia challenged her life for many years, and still does, and surviving on the ground with it, wasn't gonna be easy. yet at least, she had some training. her father was a guard, and taught her some moves to defend herself, as well as the basics of a gun. she had never shot one before, but she knew how it worked.

it was never easy to cheer up may fernsby, but for some reason, john murphy, the most hated, seemed to do that. he may have never known that he gave her happiness, as he was always distant with how outgoing she was, but it was there, it was always there when he was around.

nothing could've prepared may for what she faced on the ground, 101 kids clueless on what the hell they were doing, but at least she had a purpose, help others. it was always her first instinct, to help anyone in need, even if they weren't sick or wounded. the kindness of her heart constantly got in the way of survival, but she took the risks, because it was others, before herself.
