MAY KNEW THAT THERE WERE MANY DIFFERENT PLACES ON EARTH THAT SHE HADN'T SEEN OR BEEN TO BEFORE, and polis was one of them until just a couple of hours ago. the place was different amongst anything else she's never seen before, she'd never seen so many people together in one place. and watching as they went on with their day to day lives selling all various types of things to survive interested her, and she wished nini was there to show her around.

due to the kindness of lexa's heart, the commander agreed to let her have her own room in polis, right next to clarke's. and may found the room she was staying in very intriguing. all her life she's slept in a small room with a single bed, and now she had an open room with a large, comfortable bed with a balcony included. but as much as she enjoyed the luxury, she missed home, even though it wasn't safe for her to be there.

may walked along her knew bed, letting the edges of her fingers graze against the furry blanket that she easily guessed was made from animal's fur. she couldn't help but let out a chuckle, she was excited to sleep in the comfy bed once the sun went down.

a knock on her bedroom door snapped the girl out of her daze, and she turned to face the door, "come in!"

the double doors creaked open by two guards, revealing lexa and clarke side by side. the commander's expression was unfazed as always and clarke had a joyful one, happy to see one of her friends that actually forgave her for her sacrifices. simultaneously, the two girls walked in, and the guards closed the doors on lexa's command, leaving the three in may's room. unsure of what to say, mag flashed a smile at the two women, "um—hi?"

"hello." lexa replied dully to the seventeen year old, formally lacing her fingers in front of her body, "i assume you're settling in well?"

may nodded nervously at the commander, scared that anything she could say would set the leader off, "y—yes, i am. thank you for letting me stay, it's appreciated."

lexa gave her a curt nod as clarke continued to stay quiet, letting their conversation continue on, "i respect you, mei kom skaikru. you took care of my people when you didn't have to. that kind of kindness will never be forgotten by me."

may couldn't help but give the commander a small smile, it had been awhile since she was appreciated for an action she took-besides krystal-and lexa's appreciation made her heart warm. despite how the woman made a decision that resulted in may's people being left behind, the seventeen year old could easily see how much goodness she had in her heart.

as a couple seconds of silence went by, clarke was the first to speak up, looking to lexa, "i would like to speak with may privately if that's okay."

lexa gave clarke a curt nod of understanding, before exiting may's bedroom, leaving clarke and may together alone. it had been awhile since the two girls had a real conversation with each other, and after what happened, they both didn't really have any words to say.

may started to sway back and forth on her heels from boredom, deciding to speak up first, "thank you—for letting me stay here, it means a lot, really."

clarke chuckled, before making her way over to may's bed and taking a seat, "it's no problem. like i said, lexa respects you. she wouldn't hesitate on bringing you in anytime."

may nodded, deciding to take a seat next to clarke as well. even though the silence was still awkward around each other, it was slowly starting to become nonchalant like it used to be. "am i a coward?"

the words had spilled out of may's mouth so quick she hadn't even fully realized she said something until clarke gave her a confused look. "a coward?" clarke questioned for confirmation, and may quickly nodded. "no, i don't." the blonde answered, "why?" she prodded further, "did someone say something?"

'did someone say something?' bellamy's face instantly flashed inside may's mind when asked that question. ever since bellamy had called her the insult it kept replaying inside her head, and all she could think about were the sacrifices and the pain she endured, wondering why after everything she did and went through, she was still called a coward.

may gulped nervously, "um—bellamy did." she admitted to the blonde, "he called me a coward after i called him out on his crap."

clarke was shocked on what may had confessed, she would have never expected bellamy of all people to call may the insult, especially since she knew how close they were. but at the same time, she wasn't surprised after the man incarcerated her and was about to turn her in if it weren't for octavia and may.

"may." clarke started, grabbing the girl's hands in comfort to cheer her up, "you're one of the strongest people i know. you have to endure being anemic, you've been tortured, suffered from so much loss, and just lost your mother. you've saved so many people as well, if anything, you're the exact opposite of a coward, you're a hero, may."

may couldn't help but smile big at clarke's reassuring words, which were exactly what she needed to hear. and the seventeen wasn't gonna lie to herself, the blonde was exactly right. she went through a lot of pain, both mentally and physically, and she needed to give herself more credit. and maybe even start to get over the boy who broke her heart, murphy.
