THE FIRST TIME MAY EVER TOUCHED RAIN WAS THE FIRST DAY ON THE GROUND. she remembered what had happened so vividly, every detail. she was talking with murphy when the clear liquid plopped on her cheek, and not even a minute later of her enjoying it she nearly passed out from being anemic.

being on the ground for the first month scared may everyday, so much, that she never went outside the gates except a couple times, for good causes her life wasn't worth. she knew herself that she couldn't go out on missions anyway, her anemia would take her down in seconds, but she still feels guilty to this day on not helping as more as she should've.

but now, she knew she could do more than ever since the delinquent camp, she was able to be treated, which made her feel much more braver than she ever did, even if she very much preferred to stay behind the gates of camp jaha and help the wounded.

may pushed her guilty feelings away, and let her constant thinking go clear as she continued to feel the constant rain spatter all over her body. she laid in the wet grass, her legs stuck together and her arms by her sides, letting the rain continuously hit her.

she was with her mom in medical helping her sanitize the room when she heard the rain pattern against the camp's roofs. her mom insisted she go and see the rain, and so she did. and now she was outside, enjoying it.

her clothes were soaking wet, but she didn't mind, she would change them later and let them sit out to dry before she went to bed. because now, she wanted her mind to go clear of any negative or fearful thoughts, and just enjoy a brief moment of peace by herself.

but it didn't work out much longer, as she heard a pair of running footsteps come towards her yelling her name frantically. with her heart surging with fear knowing she was in a vulnerable state, she quickly sat up, looking in the direction the noise was coming from.

it was murphy, who abruptly stopped his running footsteps right in front of her and let his feared expression drop when he saw the girl clearly alive. may crunched her eyebrows down in confusion, still concerned that someone might need medical attention, "everything okay?!"

murphy swallowed thickly, and let the rain pour down on his damp clothes as he let out a relieved breath, "yeah everything's fine just—i saw you lying there not moving so i thought something happened to you."

she felt a blush arise on her cheeks when murphy had practically admitted to worrying about her, "awe, john—"

murphy shook his head, waving his hand away and getting ready to turn around from the blushing girl, "no, don't start, fernsby."

before he could even take a step, may grabbed ahold of his damp hand and roughly pulled him down to the ground with her, he didn't expect to be pulled, which made it easier for her.

he grunted at the unexpected force when he landed in a sitting position on the wet grass next to may, it was unexpected to him that she would do that, but he kept it to himself along with his irritated emotion.

may giggled, and pulled him down to a laying position next to her in the soaking wet grass, and reluctantly, he let her. none of them had talked to each other about the words they exchanged at the dropship yesterday, as if it never happened. but the two were fully aware of each other's feelings for one another, just hesitation holding them back from admitting it.

side by side, their knuckles just barely touching, they felt the rain crash onto their soaked bodies. no noises from the other residents of the camp were heard, as it were nearly one in the morning and everyone went to turn in for the night. except for the guards patrolling the gates, carelessly not paying attention to the two teens laying in the grass.

minutes went by as they laid in silence, breathing in the scent the rain brought the chilled air as it continued to crash down on them. "so." murphy stated to the girl, unsure of how to make conversation, "what are we doing?"

"relaxing." may responded simply, letting her eyes stay firmly shut so the rain couldn't get into her eyes.

murphy slowly nodded, letting the silence wrap around them once again. he wanted to confront the girl about the words they exchanged yesterday, but didn't know how. she was the first girl he's ever had feelings for, and he was the first boy she's ever liked. it was new for them, a new experience.

but he couldn't take it anymore, as he suddenly got a boost in confidence as he always did, "so, are we not gonna talk about what happened between us?"

may felt her stomach erupt with butterflies, she was stunned that he had brought it up, and it was the last thing she expected him to do in this moment. as she felt her cheeks heat up once again, she let her fingers lace with his, letting the silence consume them. just that one action, was the only answer murphy needed in the current moment.

the two teens couldn't stop the giggles erupting from their mouths as they made their way into may fernsby's bedroom. they were both soaking wet from the rainfall that still continued to fall down for miles, and even though the two wanted to stay out with the rain, the constant shivering from the chilled cold convinced them that it was time to fall back inside for warmth.

murphy shut the door behind them, and their genuine laughter began to die down when he turned to face may, their eyes making instant contact. but this time, this eye contact was so much more than the looks they had before. it was so much more...intense.

may felt her stomach roar with butterflies, and her heart rate began to increase as she continued to look in his blue eyes. it was like they both knew what each other were thinking. may was never the one to make such impulsive decisions, she had never done anything so bold before, but that reputation was gone as soon as she firmly placed her cold lips onto murphy's.

it was a mental understanding of what the other desired as soon as their kiss became more firm, and the other kissed back. their lips pulled apart for just seconds as they eagerly threw their soaking wet shirts over their heads, throwing them somewhere across the small room.

murphy placed his hands on may's waist as soon as her bra dropped to the floor, letting her back come in contact with her bed behind her. he climbed on top of her, letting their cold lips reunite once again with passion.

the touch that may fernsby felt that night, was much more different than she ever felt. maybe it was the kiss, or the eye contact, or the way their bare bodies came in contact with each other's. either way, the different touch she felt that day was the last one she was going to feel for awhile.
