Mallory stepped out of the elevator and so did Devin but he didn't want to be there anymore and didn't want his father to see him.
Mallory walked to their table just as Devins father turned and saw his son from the corner of his eye. He got up and called Devin over. Mallory looked at Devin before they both walked over towards his father's table.
"Mallory, always a pleasure" Devins father stood up and extended his hand for her. She smiled and shook his hand.
"What are you doing here?" His father asked him. "We're going to have dinner. You know we were just mobbed outside by the paparazzi asking me how I felt about your triumph in his case" Devin pointed to the other man sitting in his father's table.
"They need a story"
"And you gave them one to talk about for days" Devin said. "Why don't you both have dinner with us?" His father suggested.
"And put her at risk? No" Devin said and grabbed Mallory's hand to walk back towards the elevator. Before they stepped out he had his car brought to the entrance so they could get out quickly.
"Ready? I'll close the door behind you and as soon as I close it, lock it because they're capable of opening it" Devin said to Mallory who already knew that. They quickly stepped out and got in the car. Devin drove away angry with his father. No
When they got to a red light Devin apologized to Mallory.
"We can go to Nobu" Devin suggested.
"We can order and take it to my apartment I think there will be at least someone following you just to snap pictures of you and ask dumb questions" Mallory said.
Once they got to her apartment Devin helped Mallory set their food on the kitchen counter as Mallory grabbed plates.
"This is actually better you know, we're literally dressed to impress and we are only having dinner here in my kitchen" Mallory smiled to make Devin feel better.
"I still feel embarrassed for what happened" Devin said.
"Just forget it happened, I don't remember. And most importantly things happen for a reason right?" Mallory handed Devin a plate while she grabbed two glasses to serve wine.
"Why didn't you get the hamburger?" Devin asked.
"I don't like the way they marinate the meat so I went for the easy stuff, pasta. Why do you prefer sweet potato fries instead of regular french fries?" Mallory raised her brow as she grabbed one of his fries.
"I like the sweet and salty taste of it" Devin smiled.
"They're good but I'd choose regular fries. So how did your semester work out?" Mallory asked.
"It was stressing, sort of. Sometimes I really do want to drop. Ive thought about it and think I can do great if I invest in stocks" Devin said.
"I've actually considered transferring to the university here, where I always wanted to go but then I think about dropping out comes from school as well" Mallory nodded.
"Well that's not a problem for you, you have your trust fund and your real estate properties"
"You don't have a trust fund?" Mallory raised her brow. "I do but if I were to not graduate from college my parents would most likely to take it away"
"So you wanting to be a lawyer, is it because your dad wants you to pursue the same career he did or because you actually like that career?"
"A little of both, like I was saying I don't really want to do school anymore" Devin shrugged.
"Can I ask you something and I want you to be honest" Devin said.
Mallory nodded and grabbed her glass of wine and took a big drink for it almost as if preparing to give her answer.
"Why did you accept to go out with me, is it really because you're attracted to me or is it just a distraction for you?"
"I'm attracted to you" Mallory said.

After having dinner they stepped into Mallorys living room where she grabbed her ipad to play music.
"Any recommendations?" Mallory asked. "Play me your favorite song" Devin smiled.
"I have to many" Mallory blushed. "Play me the one you could listen to for the rest of your life"
Mallory switched over to her playlist and touched the song she liked the most as Devin had said.
Oblivion by M83 began playing as she removed her heels and took a seat besides Devin on her couch.
"Have you listened to it before?" Mallory asked. Devin shook his head no.
"I want to listen to your favorite song next" Mallory handed him the ipad that was connected to her home speakers. Devin listened to the lyrics of the song and wondered if she liked it because it reminded her of Ezekiel or if he had recommended it to her.
"Why is it your favorite song?" He couldn't help but ask. "I like the pitch in her voice, it's so calming yet so exciting. I first listened to it when I went out for a run and put a workout playlist on shuffle" Mallory said.
When the song ended Devin pressed the search bar and typed in the song he wanted to play.
Better Love by Hozier began playing. Mallory had always enjoyed his music but had never heard that song in specific.
Mallory looked at Devin and thought to herself that she felt way to comfortable with him and it was no surprise. She had hung out with him when she went out with Ezekiel but then he didn't speak much to her only to Zeke and Liam.
He knew her better than he thought. He'd known her since they were in elementary but she didn't know about him until they were in middle school. Devin liked that she wasn't like her family, at least she didn't want more than she already had. He saw the way she changed from being stuck up to being kind to everyone around her.
He liked the idea that he was getting the opportunity to go out with her when she had grown as a person. He knew it was due to certain people and he wondered if he would have time to change her as well for the better.
Devin could feel Mallory looking at him and turned to smile at her.
"Why is it your favorite song?" Mallory asked almost in a whisper.
"It has always reminded me of you" Devin said before leaning in to softly leave a peck on her lips.
