"i love you."

"I'm so nervous." I trembled as Dave took my though the house of his friend Josh. His hands placed firmly on my shoulders leading me in the right direction.

"Don't be. If they don't like you....than I'll just break up with you." Dave casually said, "what?!" I said turning around to give him a death stare. I swear my heart dropped to my stomach in that moment.

"Jesus, I'm kidding." He laughed before opening up the glass door that lead to the backyard. I could already see empty beer cans, and guys along with some girls drunkenly dancing around and being loud. It was barely 6, and everyone was already tipsy.

"Hey, my man." Josh, I'm assuming, said giving Dave a high five. I felt so awkward standing there without anyone knowing me, I probably looked stupid. I'd be sitting alone while Dave hung out with his friends. I just hope no one would come up and talk to me. I was scared.

"Josh, this is my girlfriend Danielle." Dave said grabbing my hand with his. I looked up in shock that he actually introduced me and came eye to eye with Josh.

"Hey, Danielle. I'm Josh." His hand was out ready for me to shake. Nervously, I shook it with a forced smile. I honestly didn't know what to say back, I was so scared. I don't know why, but I was.

"Hi." I softly said before pulling my hand back and locking it around Dave's arm making sure I was close to him. He rested his head on top of mine for a second before pulling away to catch up with whoever else was here. While, I wandered around aimlessly looking like an idiot. Even the bench I was sitting on was uncomfortable, it's like nothing would go right for me.

"Hey, have you seen Dave?" I asked walking you to that one boy Josh. He was drunk as hell, already and pointed to the door, signaling he was inside. I rubbed my arms up and down from the cold breeze of the night and wandered inside seeing some people on the couch, and some people at the table. But no Dave.

I slowly made my way into the basement where I saw Dave and two other boys playing Pool at the table. I cleared my throat trying to catch his attention, and he looked to me with a smile on his face. He was drunk, drunk as shit, and obviously very intoxicated. There was even a glass bottle of beer in his hand he was still working on.

"Dani, where have you been. We— I missed you." Dave threw his arms around my neck falling into me. I could barely even hold him up, he put all his weight in my hands. Goddammit, I hate drunk people.

"Let's go home, Dave." I whispered trying to pull him up the stairs. He was limp, and barely able to walk. I couldn't wait for him to complain tomorrow morning about his headache. I didn't know how I was gonna get him back home.

"No, it's— we just got here." Dave slurred pulling away from me and walking downstairs. Of course, he had to be difficult. He's always difficult.

"It's 1 in the morning we got here at 7:00." I corrected before taking a seat on the steps obviously wanting to go home. But, of course Dave never cared about what I wanted.

"Whatever. Same difference, I wanna stay here with my— shit!" Dave said looking down at his bleeding finger and a broken glass bottle. I rolled my eyes at his carelessness and pulled him into the bathroom beside us.

"You need to calm the fuck down, and just listen to me. We need to go home before I loose my mind, and you end up driving home drunk and possibly dying, okay?" I said pulling out a bandaid and some paper towels. Dave pulled himself up to sit on the sink counter as I wrapped his hand in the bandage.

"Okay. I'm sorry, okay?" Dave said with a barely audible voice. I breathed out as a cold draft blew in the room. It was colder than shit out for a July day. And just as I looked out the small window I saw fireworks lighting up outside. I couldn't help but quickly smile at them admiring their beauty. Dave had his head laid against the wall, almost asleep. He was so out of it.

"Hey, I want to help you and take care of you. You just have to let me." I said before taking his hands in mine and pulling him up the stairs and right out the door. It was pitch black outside, but luckily the fireworks being shot into the sky lit it up for me. It was hard getting him home, but I couldn't leave him there, or expect him to walk himself. It was killing me to drag him all the way back. But, I did it. I'm not sure why, but I did.

"Wait are we home?" Dave said in a louder voice. I shushed him immediately and pulled him up into his room, "yes, and your mother and sister and probably sleeping." I informed laying him down in his bed and watching him pull the covers over himself.

"Oh. Okay." He whispered lowly before I turned off the lights and climbed in next to him. I successfully got him home safe and that's all that mattered to me. Wether he remembers it tomorrow or not, I knew I did something I'd be proud of for awhile, and it wasn't even that big of a deal.

"Hey, Dani." Dave whispered softly beside me. I hummed in response snuggling further into the pillow.

"Are you gonna come to Olympia with me? Because, I don't think you should. I mean, with everything between us going on, it doesn't seem like a good idea. I've been just....thinking about it a lot. Ya know, I don't even want you to come with, you'll probably be a buzzkill. But, it's whatever okay?" He just rambled on and on like a crazy asshole.

There was dead silence for awhile, but then the three words that came out of his mouth next shocked me to my core. I couldn't even breath, I couldn't process what was going on already. He really just fucking said that to me, and tried to cover it up with this shit?

"I love you."
