(y/n)'s pov
I was outside on the balcony behind my room. There was a light drizzle, but it wasn't much rain. At least, I hoped it wasn't. I had a fair immune system, so I pleaded I wouldn't get sick.
I enjoyed the rain right now. If it was heavier, I would probably be staring out the window from the inside of my home. Maybe sitting on my bed, laying in my bed, or being on my bed in general. But I wasn't, since I was here leaning on the railings.
I heard a rustle next to me and looked right. Suddenly, a friend of mine came. I smiled as the faint lightning illuminated the night. Ray.
Sometimes, he sneaked out of his neighborhood and visited me. I always left my window open for him. If people asked, I would just say that the weather was pleasant right then, even if it wasn't.
Ray's hair was slightly wet with the rain, and his gray jacket had water stains. "Hi, (y/n)."
I waved a hand in response, stood up, and walked next to him.
"What are you doing here?" I asked. He usually didn't come this late, and usually had various reasons. He shrugged.
"I guess I just wanted to see you," he answered. "We don't talk much in school, so this is the only place we can really be ourselves."
I laughed before answering. He really could be sweet if he wanted to. I felt the rain stop, but the low sound of thunder still remained. I almost always got scared whenever he came to my room because I constantly remember that someone can see us and report us to our parents.
However, I guess luck was continuously on our side because we never got caught.
"So how was your day?" I inquired, glancing at him. He has really nice eyes, I thought. Even though I could barely see them in the dim light of the backyard, I knew.
"It was fine," Ray answered, staring straight at the trees below. "Nothing really special happened during class."
I nodded, and he asked me about my day. "It was good, although it could've been better though," I replied honestly. I was so sick of school at this point.
"Oh really?" he said. "Why?"
"I don't know, it's just that I can't wait till we graduate and I never have to look back at this traumatizing time of school," I muttered. I caught Ray looking at me in concern.
"May I?" he whispered, his hand hovering over my palm. I slowly nodded, and he took my hand. It was warm and so comforting. I half expected it to be cold since we were out during the night at who knows how late. "You don't have to pretend you're okay, (y/n)."
"I know, but sometimes our class makes it so hard," I said, hiding my face in my jacket sleeve. "I hate them."
"Like who?" he asked gently. His expression was so kind it could've made me cry.
"People," I responded vaguely, shaking my head. "They make me so uncomfortable, they always call me names, and I hate it. They act like we're friends, but they just love to see me get humiliated."
He listened intently. "Why don't we go inside, yeah?"
I nodded, and carefully opened my door to my room. I sat on my bed, as Ray stood next to my window. Weirdly, I started breaking down in tears, as Ray let me cry. I hid my face in my pillow, ashamed that he saw me in my weakest state.
"I'm glad you talked to me about this," he said. "This might sound weird, but I'm proud of you."
"Why?" I wondered in confusion. He glimpsed at me again and uncrossed his arms.
"Because you finally recognized your own limits," he said quietly. "Crying isn't a sign of weakness; just a sign of someone keeping to themselves for too long."
He went next to me on the comforters. "It's going to be alright. You can get through this."
He used his thumb to wipe under my eyes, cleaning his fingers with his jacket.
"You're so willful, intelligent, thoughtful, and that's why I-," he paused. "Sorry, I got lost in the moment," Ray said, cutting himself off quickly. He had a definite blush across his nose.
"What were you going to say?" I asked, feeling better. He shook his head, which made me really perplexed. However, the expression on his face, the imperceptible pink on his cheeks, the way he avoided eye contact with me, and his words stated differently.
His body language spoke for himself.
I took a deep breath and took his hand again.
"Ray?" I said, catching his attention. "Do you somewhat, like me?"
His eyes widened. "No! I mean, yeah I do, but not in the way you think. Wait, sorry, no, actually I meant..." he stuttered. A period of silence fell upon us.
"I won't judge whatever your response is," I told him softly, taking his hand. He refused to meet my eyes.
"Do you have feelings for me?" I questioned again. My eyes narrowed.
"Yeah," he mumbled, grinning. "You got me. God, I didn't expect confessing would be so awkward."
I laughed lightly, a smile on my lips. I didn't know what to feel afterward. He seemed to be expecting my answer.
"I suppose, I like you too," I replied. "To be honest, I didn't realize it till tonight. I think it would be more of a quiet grateful love, because you were always there for me, waiting by my balcony window."
Ray stood up and motioned his arm toward me.
" Every moment, I'll always be there waiting. Every step of the way."

This is totally not inspired by my own experiences with my class. If you ever find yourself in an uncomfortable situation, please speak up about it to a trusted friend or adult. Believe me, you'll feel a lot better.
Have a great day/night!
