(y/n)'s pov

We've been watching this movie on Netflix for an hour now. We were at Ray's house. I was surrounded by people I knew and was friends with, like Emma, Ray, Norman, Gilda, Don, Anna, and Nat.

If you ask me, the movie was kind of boring. It was also cliche and emphasized the fake-dating trope. Typical.

I wasn't going to hate on it because Gilda and Anna loved that trilogy. I myself read the series and had to admit that the books were better than the movies. That was always the case with film adaptations though.

I  couldn't even hear the dialogue because everyone else drowned out the sound. I didn't care that much, since I didn't really like it. I looked around.

Emma and Norman were conversing with each other, and Don left to pick up food. Gilda stopped watching to play a video game in the other room, as Anna looked through the different titles on the bookshelf. Nat left early because he had piano lessons, and Ray was on his phone.

We were all not paying attention, but that was fine. Before we knew it, almost everyone had left to go home. Now Ray and I were the only ones here.

"Hi, (y/n)," Ray stated, still on his phone. I could hear the Candy Crush announcer on his device. So that's what he was doing, I thought. "We haven't talked all day."

He was sitting a few feet away from me, on the other side of the couch. The middle seat remained empty between us. He looked up from his phone, awaiting my response.

"Well then hi, Ray," I said, raising an arm as a greeting. I had nothing to do so I might as well spend some time with him.

We fell into silence. By spending time with each other, I guess I just meant sitting with each other's companies as the minutes ticked by. I then resorted to watching cooking videos on my phone, specifically the ones where no one talks and it's just satisfying noises.

I must have fallen asleep because the last thing I remembered before dozing off was my phone turning off and my vision going dark.

sometime later

I woke up and blinked my eyes vigorously. My sight returned back, and I realized I was asleep for an hour when I looked at the digital clock. I realized I wasn't in my prior position, so I looked around to see where exactly I was on the couch. My question was soon answered when I was met with Ray's face above mine.

"You somehow fell asleep on me," he said, looking back at the television. I just noticed that it was now showing video games. "Don't ask how; you just did."

"Oh, sorry," I murmured, about to sit up. However, he shifted position and put his arm around me.

"If you're still tired, you can stay," he mumbled, looking down. "I know you're sleepy."

"You know what, I will," I answered. I smiled upwards. "You're a really comfortable pillow."

He passed me a gray fleece blanket from an armchair, and with one hand, he put it around me. He continued playing his game, as he laughed.

"I'm so tired," I muttered, burying my face into his shoulder. I looked up, and his eyes met mine. "I had to wake up extra early to meet up with you guys today."

"Yeah, that's why I'm letting you rest on me," he responded. "I don't let a lot of my classmates take a nap on my shoulder, so you're lucky."

"Wow, I feel so special," I said, hearing an audible hum from the television. I didn't know what time it is, and I hoped it wasn't late. After a few minutes, I asked a question I was dying to know. "Why do you care about me so much?"

He paused his video game and shrugged. "I don't know, you just seem different."

"Different in what way?" I asked curiously.

"I don't know, I can't explain it," he said. "I really do care about you, more than you think."

He didn't make eye contact with me, for he was focused on his game. The environment here was also different. It was quiet, dim, with the illumination of the television screen. I grew cautious of the cotton on my chin, and Ray's arm over my shoulder.

This didn't feel normal; this wasn't him at all.

"You can be so nice sometimes," I stated, as he glanced at me. "I wonder why you're not nice all the time."

"It's because we're not surrounded by five other people right now," he whispered. "So make sure to live in the moment, because you don't know when you'll experience something like this again."

I nodded, perplexed by his actions. He was an interesting person. And it confused me so much.

ten minutes later

I felt him shake my shoulder and forced myself awake. I probably fell asleep again.

"It's getting late, so I'm going to drive you home," he said. "You can rest in the car."

I nodded, kind of sad that our moment had to end so soon. I wondered how our other friends were doing, as I got my stuff ready.

Ray opened the door for me to his car. I stepped in and sat down while he went to the driver's seat. My eyes were weary, and I unconsciously placed my hand on the shift lever. He didn't move me away when he backed up off the driveway, and just gently placed his hand on top of mine. It was warm.

We drove to my place in silence.

I couldn't rest anymore and just looked out the window the whole time. It was my first time alone in a guy's car, and to be honest, I liked the tranquility of the scene. It was drizzling outside, and he used his windshield wipers to drive through the rain.

I realized how much I didn't know about him. Ray didn't have that much of a personality in school, and just kept to himself when we were with our classmates. But when we were alone, he was a whole other person. And I liked that about him; that he can be the sweetest person when he wants to be.

Before we knew it, we were in front of my house. Ray tapped my arm softly, which alerted me to take off my seatbelt. He helped me off and we were outside my home.

"Thanks for having me," I said quietly. "I really enjoyed today."

He smiled again, the same way he smiled at me when we were alone in his house.

"Thank you for accompanying me," he replied. "I really did enjoy your company."
