As she looked up at him, with her teary eyes, she peered into his deep eyes that were covered by his hair, he was still her fruffy, yet she now saw a great mystery within those eyes. Was it hurt that lay beyond his contagious smile, or was it just her lack of understanding of what he truly is, with a shaky yet hopeful voice she said, "don't you still love me, or have you never truly learned to love?"
"Love you?...............", " Do I still love you Aurora?......................." " I learned to love only for you, you made me learn what love is, because what I felt for you can only ever be described as that and nothing else, just pure, true love......", "But I can't say I truly learned how to love, because if I did I'd be able to love myself, but how can I love myself, when there's never been anything to love, just an empty shell................., but when I met you, I thought, finally there was someone who saw something in me worth loving, yet, EVERY DAY you made me question myself, do I love you? YES, loving you is as easy as breathing for me, it's a reflex action, but everyday I've questioned if you loved me, you've only ever hurt me............, and I thought to myself that maybe I didn't love you enough, and as such, I'm tired."
The fierceness in his voice was something she had never heard, it was so wobbly, as though on the verge of tears, she was beyond words, had she known what to say, she would've said it. But all she could do is watch as the 5'9" silhouette of the man that loves her beyond reason walks out the door, his broad shoulders hung, his head searching the ground, and his large feet walking without rhythm as though they didn't have the energy to walk away from the sound of Aurora's muffled tears.
Yet no matter how much he wanted to run back to that couch and hug her, hold her closer to his chest than the shirt he wore, and tell her it was going to be ok, he couldn't, not because he didn't love her, not because he had given up on their relationship, not because he was fed up, but because all he wanted was for her to prove him wrong, for her to realize what she was losing, and run to him, hold on to him, and say that he was wrong, that he truly was everything she wanted.
But no matter how slow he walked, she could only sit and recall their life together, and all they did, their ups and downs.
That night, she laid in bed, hugging the pillow he slept on, wearing his jacket, even though it made her miss him even more, it felt as though he was there comforting her, hugging her, telling her it would be alright, and with that, she slowly drifted off to sleep, her tear stained pillow hugging her face, and his jacket substituting for his arms around her, soothing her pain, and helping her fall asleep. it was the first night in 2yrs that she went to sleep without him beside her, he would usually give her head rubs to put her to sleep, but tonight she had to rub her own head, and as she rubbed her head, she clenched her tear stained pillow tighter, and drifted off to sleep.
"Ace" Aurora shrieked as she leapt from her slumber, still disoriented she frantically looked around the room for him, she thought to herself, did she oversleep and miss giving him his goodbye kiss for work. She desperately started looking for her phone, but couldn't find it, maybe it was in the kitchen she thought, he usually puts it to charge before he leaves for work because she always forgets to do it, but by the time she reached the bottom of the stairs she couldn't smell breakfast, maybe he was in a rush today, she remembered he had that big presentation he was doing, but her phone wasn't charging, it was on the coffee table, she rushed to it, thinking if she caught him in time, she could still get her goodbye kiss, he always thought she was the cutest, how she would do anything to get her goodbye kiss, and as she lifted her phone, yesterday came rushing back and in one fell swoop her broad smile turned to a frown, and she slowly dropped to the floor, they had an argument, and for the first time, he didn't come back and apologize to her, and fix everything, he had just left, with that realization, she felt a pain in her chest, as though something had broken and dropped at the same time.
She just sat there, staring at her phone, was she waiting on a call, was she waiting on things to go back to normal, whatever it was, the seconds of waiting turned to minutes, and those minutes turned to hours. Then she did it, she mustered up the courage and called him, yet she was answered by the voicemail, " You have reached Ace, if I'm not picking up, it's because I'm spending quality time with the love of my life", " oh Ace, stop being so cheesy, you truly live up to your nickname Mr. Cheese. At the tone please record your message.", it was the voicemail he made when they now started dating, yet this was the first time she heard it, he usually always answered her, even when he was furious with her, or extremely busy, because he never wanted her to worry for him. So she rang and rang, Ace looked at his phone, 100 missed calls, and as the 101st call came, he looked at the contact picture he had put of her from their first date together, she was so happy and beautiful, that was to him his last first date for the rest of his life.
As the ringing continued, looking at her picture started weakening him, he wanted to answer so bad, and as he was just about to, the most unexpected thing happened, was it good or bad luck.
