This routine of Sylvia sitting opposite him without saying a word would go on to continue over the next two weeks, but one day she didn't come neither did Thomas, Ace tried not to think of it, but he had gotten accustomed to their laughter and company, he couldn't help but wonder where they went. But he just shrugged it off since it really wasn't his business.
The next day would make about a month since his encounter with Bob, but Smith never came, he thought they had just left it be. But at lunch he saw a black SUV and Smith came out and signaled for him to come over. Ace went over.
"Well hop in kid."
Ace jumped in the SUV and they drove off. While driving Smith looked at him in the rear view mirror, "Hey kid, you didn't think we forgot about you did you?"
"Well, no, I just thought Mr. Bob realized I really would be a liability."
Smith laughed, "It was the total opposite of that kid."
"What do you mean Smith?"
"Oh, so you call Bob, Mr. Bob but call me Smith?"
"No, sorry Mr. Smith."
"I'm kidding kid, you can call me Smith, we're friends now right?"
"We're friends?"
"Well yes."
"But you're older than me, how can we be friends."
"Age has nothing to do with friends, but I guess, ok think of me like you cool older brother ok."
Ace shook his head in agreement as he smiled. They continued driving for about an hour until they reached a huge yellow house. "We're here kid."
Ace looked around, "Where?"
"Oh right, this is Mr. Bob's house."
When they stopped Bob opened Ace's door for him, "The house is cool isn't it?"
Ace shook his head in agreement, "It really is."
"Well, Smith will take you too the gym and have you exercise a little and after a few days he'll teach you to fight."
Ace followed behind Smith and after about an hour they came out of the gym.
Bob saw them, "Well, this as much time as you can spend here since we have to drop you back to school before it's over. I suppose you weren't learn a lot in this little time though."
Smith came out the gym, "Actually, that isn't true." he put his hand on Ace's head and ruffled his hair, "This kid's a natural, he's catching on really quickly."
"Oh really?"
"Yep." Smith looked at Ace, "Show him you learned." He grinned as he pulled a gun out and pointed it at Ace. Within a few seconds Ace disarmed him, "See Bob, kids a natural."
Bob looked at Ace, "I guess he is. But he'll need more practice won't he, that's to slow for it to be effective." Bob bent down to eye level with Ace and placed his hand on his shoulder, "Hey kid, now I'm teaching you to defend yourself, but I want you to remember, if you even get in a squabble, and you know it doesn't put your life in danger, never fight back."
"But aren't I supposed to defend myself?"
Bob sighed, "Yes kid, yes your are, but let me tell you something, in life you'll meet a lot of people who want to fight because they have a short temper, but they're just stressed and stupid. Remember how I told the guys who beat your friend to death that they were just frogs in a well trying to rule the ocean. But only whales can rule the ocean?"
