She held the ice drink to his nose, trying to stop the swelling. She didn't know whether she should apologize or just keep quiet. She felt as if what happened was her fault.
"I told you Landon was bad news. Why didn't you listen to me?" He asked, with his eyes shut.
"Well, I was drunk, I still kind of am, but I've sobered up. And Landon doesn't seem all bad when you get to know him."
He opened his eyes to stare at her. "How do you know Landon?"
"He's Brinley's boyfriend." She muttered, realizing they actually left her for each other.
He smirked. "It's good Brinley's getting someone as horrible as her. Wait, if he's Brinley's boyfriend and your Brinley's friend,-"
"Yes, I've been hooking up with my best friend's boyfriend but we're not friends anymore and the last time Landon and I hooked up was almost 2 months ago. I know that doesn't make it better, though. I don't regret hurting Brinley, but I do regret hooking up with him." She explained with a sigh.
"You know, Brinley never liked you?"
"Yes, Isaac, that's why I said I don't feel bad for hurting her."
He chuckled, holding her hand. "I don't want another person I care about getting hurt by Landon, okay?"
"Another person?" She asked, taking the cup away from his nose, causing him to flinch. "Sorry." She said, putting it back there.
"Liz used to be Landon's girlfriend when he was 20 and she was 19. They were both going to school together." He explained.
"But then, Liz started catching onto how shady Landon was and how he was a bad person. She started catching him cheating on her with literally anyone. She thought it was because they weren't having sex so she gave him her first time, which was a mistake."
"She confronted him about it after they had sex and he told her that he loved her and that he made a mistake but he hasn't done it in a long time. But he lied because the next day he broke up with her and stopped talking to her."
Carlota's mouth opened and then shut. She never realized how horrible Landon was. She then scowled herself for falling for Landon.
"Liz was heartbroken. 6 months of her life gone because of Landon. So you see, I don't want the same happening to you, okay? Stay away from Landon, please."
She couldn't promise him that. Deep down she knew she was going to hookup with Landon in the near future.
Liz arrived to pick him up but gave her a brief hug. "What happened?" She asked, analyzing her brother's bruised nose.
"Just a bruise." Carlota shrugged. "He'll be fine though." She smiled.
Liz nodded her head and walked out with Isaac and Carlota. "Get home safe." She said walking into the car and leaving Carlota here by herself.
Once they were gone, she picked her phone out of her purse and began calling Yasmin but it went straight to voicemail. She called again and again but she wasn't picking up.
Carlota began getting even more angry at her sister.
"Did Isaac leave you?" Landon asked, in a mocking tone.
She turned around to see him close by. She groaned and began calling Yasmin again but she wasn't picking up her phone. Her anger quickly grew to worry.
"Carlota, I'll take you home." He offered which caused a mocking smile to form on Carlota's lips.
"Okay, let me understand this. You're the reason I got kicked out of school, you deny me in front of Brinley and kick me out of your car. You forget about me so quickly despite me getting your sister something for Christmas, and you. You ignore my calls and then when my friends try to prank you, you embarrass me in front of them. Now you're here, trying to prove something, punch my friend in the face and have the audacity to offer to take me home?"
He stared at her without knowing what to say. He didn't realize how angry she was and how long she could hold a grudge.
"Okay, fine. I'm sorry, Carlota. But I'm sure we can get back to where we were if we just.-"
"Shut up, Landon! I don't want to hear another word from your mouth. I don't want to get back to where we were, because you're-." She couldn't find the words to describe Landon.
Horrible wasn't enough. Landon was a bad person. But Carlota missed that bad person he was.
"I'm what?" He asked, walking closer to her. Her eyes look at his. She felt weak around him and she hated it. His lips came close to hers but he didn't kiss her.
It was as if there was a magical force preventing their lips from touching one another. Landon truthfully missed her and wanted her back in his life. Carlota missed him just as much but was scared to let him back in her life after what Isaac told him.
"I got your brownie, Carlota. It was tough and salty." He said, bringing his hand to touch her face. "But I still finished it regardless. Same with your soup, I finished my bowl when you went to sleep." He informed, causing butterflies to erupt in her stomach.
"Landon," She trailed, not knowing what to say. "Can I stay at your place?" She asked, knowing she was going to regret it later.
"Didn't you want to go home?"
She thought of Yasmin and started to sigh. She was upset with Yasmin and it was a great excuse to not come home.
"It's an excuse to get away from Yasmin, not because I want to stay with you." She said, causing disappointment to take over his features.
"Okay."
