TW: death, people turning into statues, a bad deal (like gambling kind of deal), mentions of blood and torture

Techno opened his eyes. He blinked and moved his arms around. They felt heavy and slow, nothing like himself, who was usually always sword-ready.

He was dreaming, that much he could figure out.

Stars shined above him, shifting rapidly. Purples and blues exploded across the sky of his dreamscape. Techno looked out across the horizon of the mysterious place and curiously noted several obsidian towers surrounding what appeared to be a bedrock nest.

Those weren't the only things in the barren endstone landscape. Amongst the endermen flickering in and out of view and the dragon circling, statues were littered across the land. They felt eerily familiar. He stopped and took a closer look at the first one he found.

It was a statue of a boy. The boy held a sword pointed upwards and had a full set of Netherite armor strapped on. The statue was so lifelike that Techno almost expected it to start fighting the dragon. With a start, Techno realized who the statue was.

"No," he cried, dropping his sword and rushing to the statue. The screaming face of Tommy was immortalized in stone. Tommy, his brother, had been turned into stone somehow. Techno looked around desperately to fix this before he found another statue.

It was Philza. His wings were flared, an intimidation tactic of his, and his shield and sword were raised. The enchantments on his armor still glistened even though they had been coated in the fine white dust that covered the landscape. His face was twisted with anger and betrayal.

"It's heartbreaking, isn't it?" Techno whirled around, finding a tall figure stroking the face of a statue- George's statue. He reached for his sword, only to remember that he had dropped it by Tommy. "He had such potential; they all did. And they chose to break the one rule of this SMP: no one enters the End and comes out alive."

"DreamXD," he growled. Techno grew angry at this creature, who had decided he had the right to hurt his family and everyone else on the server.

"Had I not stepped in, they would've won. The game would've ended; the world would've ended. You understand, Techno. It was a sacrifice, a massacre, but it was necessary."

"What are you talking about, XD?" Techno asked, bravely facing the omnipotent creature. He wished his sword was in his hands and not twenty feet away, under Tommy's statue.

"This is the future, Technoblade." He froze and stared at the statues surrounding him and the dusty wasteland underneath his feet.

"No, it can't be." He crossed his arms and dared XD to challenge him. XD merely laughed. Techno realized his insignificance in comparison to XD; if he was a star, XD was the universe. If this was the future, there wasn't much he could do to stop this. "How could you do this?"

"Oh, you think I did this?" XD wheezed, sounding a lot like his mortal form, Dream. "You did. Don't you remember our deal?" Techno stiffened when he realized what XD meant.

"No, I couldn't- I wouldn't... No!"

"See you soon, Technoblade," XD said, his voice drowning out the whispers of fear in Techno's head.

Techno woke up in a cold sweat. For a second, he felt relieved that it was just a dream, but something told him this was more than a dream. It was a vision.

He knew what he needed to do. He needed to pay a visit to a certain prisoner. Techno pulled on his combat boots and swung his cape and sheath on, not bothering to change out of his pajamas. He put on his signature white gloves, which clashed horribly with the outfit. If he had a mirror, he would've winced at how awful the outfit was, but with the future of the world in balance, Dream seeing his pig onesie didn't seem significant.

He stalked towards the prison with his sword out, ready for anything. Luckily, it was still night, and not very many people were out to question what he was doing. He arrived at the prison and entered without any intervention. He quickly found Sam.

"Sam, I need to see Dream," Techno pleaded. He sheathed his sword and looked up at the creeper. "It's important; the fate of the world is at stake."

Sam nodded, sighing and rubbing a hand over his tired face. He guided Techno to the bridge and sent him across. Techno saluted him as he floated out to Dream's cell. Once he stepped off the bridge, it floated away from him. Techno bit down his panic and reminded himself that this was standard procedure.

With his head held high, he faced Dream. Dream sat crisscross applesauce on the ground. He stared at Techno expectantly.

"Nice outfit," Dream snorted.

"Thanks, it was a Christmas present from Phil." Dream spluttered as Techno chuckled. He knew what Dream meant, but he couldn't help but twist his words. "I need to talk to XD."

"You think I can just summon him by choice?" Dream wheezed. Techno rolled his eyes and waited for Dream to shut up.

"No, but I know what will." He pointed his sword to Dream's neck. "If your life is in immediate danger, he'll come, won't he? Unless he's only summoned by your death, a term which I will happily oblige to. Sorry, Dream. Seems like either way, this won't end good for you." Techno smiled wide; he'd been waiting years for this opportunity, ever since Dream had hurt Tommy and even before that, too.

And so, he got started.

Techno dragged his sword across Dream's abdomen one last time. He paused and waited for the appearance of Dream XD. Nothing. He sighed and turned back to Dream, who was choking and breathing heavily.

"Looks like I was wrong. Shame," Techno said in false bravado. Under the mask, he was panicking. This was his last hope to save the SMP, and it had failed.

Dream slumped against the floor one last time. Techno sighed and pulled his bloodied gloves off. Just as the floating bridge reached him, a figure appeared.

"Ah, Technoblade. You called?" the ethereal voice spoke. It echoed in the silence, creating a sound that made Techno feel as if he were dreaming again. Techno turned around, his face pulled into a false smile that looked more like a grimace.

"My old friend." XD stood proudly in front of him. He towered several feet above Techno and floated above the floor. He tilted his head in confusion at Techno. "You know why you're here, then."

Whispers sounded around him as XD's eyes bore into his soul. Chills ran down his spine, and goosebumps prickled on his arms. For the first time in his life, Techno felt underdressed. Perhaps his pig onesie wasn't the best outfit choice for meeting an all powerful being. He self-consciously pulled the hoodie down and flipped his long, pink hair over it.

"Yes. You called because of your dream," DreamXD stated. Techno nodded. "It's more than that, isn't it? You're afraid the terms of our last agreement will come to pass."

Techno flinched at the mention of their first and only interaction up until this point. He had been young, stupid, and reckless and made a deal with XD for power to smite his enemies. XD had given that to him and so much more.

In return, XD asked for three things: a promise that Techno wouldn't use his newfound powers against him and that he wouldn't ever step foot in the End, a place outlawed for the mortals of the Dream SMP. The final term was the hardest to agree to, but he had done it without a second thought.

The final term was that Technoblade had to help DreamXD destroy the people of the server when they discovered the End. When he had made the deal, he didn't care for anyone from the SMP; that was before he met his little family, before he made friends. Things had changed.

"How do I stop this?" he asked, running a hand through his hair. He regretted ever making that stupid deal.

"There isn't anything you can do to stop it; it's already been set in motion by your brother, Thomas."

No.
