"So what exactly are you going to do?"
Jeno shrugged, getting up from his chair beside Renjun and walking over to the lunch line. He quickly grabbed a water bottle with his left hand and walked back over to his friend.
"As long as-" his words stopped for a moment as he looked out of the large glass wall. He shut his eyes tightly, not believing the scene in front of him.
When he pulled them back open, he gulped harshly, going to sit back down next to Renjun. He pulled out his pill bottle as he continued speaking.
Just my imagination.
"Probably just," he coughed slightly, his throat still dry, "you know, work well enough to pass the class. Can't fail or I have to take two more years so that's really out of the question."
The two boys looked up towards the cafeteria doors when they heard the metal blocks closing loudly, a silence falling over everyone inside.
"What are we talking about?" Donghyuck asked, unfazed by the stares from his fellow students and the faculty.
"Jeno heard that there's an upcoming project for his literature class and doesn't want to do it," Renjun informed him, biting down on an apple.
Donghyuck hummed, "understandable. So what are you going to do about it?"
Jeno tilted his head partially, "what do you mean what am I going to do about it? I have to do the work to graduate, can't just send out threats here and there."
Donghyuck shrugged, "very debatable but okay."
Another hush fell over the cafeteria as two more people entered, everyone trying their best to avoid eye contact with the two youngest.
"That's not how that works."
"Okay, then tell me how it works. You spend most of your time behind a computer screen and you're still as fit as the rest of us. It would've made more sense to take a technology program."
Chenle held his hand up as Jisung sat down beside Donghyuck, slapping the younger boy's head of purple hair.
"I go with you all on like half of the missions, what are you talking about? It's Neo City, not a lot of surveillance cameras for obvious reasons. The only time I'm behind the computer for a mission is when they're extremely important."
"Don't you always help the girls?"
"Yeah but usually to help test out our inventions."
"Does he really go with us on half of the missions," Jisung asked aloud towards his three older friends. Each of them stared back at him silently for a few seconds before they sighed.
"Jisung, do you really not notice him there with us?" Jeno asked.
"Of course I do. But we've been doing this for so long that I'm now desensitized to however many we go on now," he answered, taking Jeno's sandwich.
Chenle took in a deep breath, reaching into his side backpack as he spoke. "Sometimes I have to try so hard to resist the urge to smack you."
"The feeling is mutual," Jisung replied, stealing Donghyuck's water to wash down the small bite.
"Why don't you just get your own plate of food? You don't have to steal everyone else's food, you know," Donghyuck scoffed, taking his water back.
Jisung shrugged, "I don't like waiting in lines."
The four around him suddenly went quiet, each of them looking at him with dead stares. "Jisung, do you know who you are?" Renjun scoffed.
Jisung paused, sitting still as he tried to register their words. It didn't take long before Jeno spoke up again, "gang, Jisung. You're in a gang. They'll let you do whatever you want if you look scary enough. I know it's your first year and all but this feels like common sense."
Jisung sat up straight, "oh. Right. Do I look scary enough?"
The four fell silent again. "We've known you since you were fourteen, Ji. We're really not the ones that can to answer that. Just come on, I'll take you to get some food," Jeno groaned, standing up.
Jisung happily followed after him, humming lowly to himself as he looked around the cafeteria room. He was happy to see everyone avoiding eye contact, feeling superior when compared to those around him.
He was pulled back into reality when he continued walking without paying much attention to those around him, a painful groan catching him off guard.
He looked down to see he had stepped on someone's foot by accident when he wasn't looking. His eyes darkened seeing the girl staring up at him, someone he recognized all too well.
"Watch where you're going," he suddenly heard Jeno say, the older boy lightly pulling Jisung away from the girl.
Everyone in the cafeteria was silent as they watched the interaction, none of them having any room to stand up to Jeno or Jisung.
"How long has she been following you around?" Jisung asked in a hushed voice, grabbing any food he thought would be appetizing.
Jeno sighed, "too long."
