chapter fifty-six

Dear Eunjin,

Honestly, this is probably going to be a lot harder to write than I was planning. If anything, it will be just as hard for you to read. And I'm sorry for that.

If you receive this letter, it means that I have died.

There are many ways I could've died but I'm writing this in case I die while taking care of you and hadn't gotten the truth out yet.

You were my mission. I was to protect you from the day you woke up to the day all of your memories returned. And when you got them back, you would decide what to do with the rest of your life.

You were mission 18A3C21.

I want you to know that you were not only my mission but my best friend.

Although the other girls had only just met you for this mission, you and I had known each other since we were kids.

We both joined our first gang at the ripe age of one. We were best friends along with the boy you know now as Lee Jeno. Actually, you two were probably better friends than you and me but we were all pretty close.

But that all came to an end when were eight. Your parents weren't happy with the direction the gang was going in. Not enough gore, as your father said.

Jeno and I were banned from communicating with you. This is why Jeno gifted you with that beautiful ring you wear around like a necklace.

But then something happened that changed our lives. You got into an accident that put you into a coma for three years.

While you were in a coma, a lot happened.

NCT was tipped off saying that your father hired someone to kill you which obviously, didn't work.

This drew a line between your parents and they eventually got a divorce and formed two separate gangs.

They sent both after you in attempt to end your life as soon as possible. We still aren't sure why but maybe one day you'll be able to find out.

While you were in a coma, our leader Taeyong ordered me, Chaeyoung, Jisoo, and Yuna to protect you.

He also took his own precautions that would keep you as safe as possible. Your real name was Lee Eunjin until Taeyong got it legally changed.

He also hired two people to act as your parents for when you woke up.

The doctor told us that you would probably regain your memories in a year. So that's how long we had to make you believe that we were safe and trustworthy.

Hopefully that worked?

But I'm assuming that by the time you get your memories back, you'll be a bit confused. So, I'll explain some stuff about me.

My real name is Lee Jihan.
I was born in May of 1998.
I am one of the hidden members of NCT.

I am the daughter of the second leaders of our first gang. I hope that isn't confusing. I also have a younger brother, Lee Jihoon.

Our parents got divorced the year your family left to form their own gang. I stayed with my father in Jeno's family's gang while my mother and little brother joined your parents.

I found out a year ago that my brother had died while on a mission. Remember when you saw me getting emotional at random times and when I was supposed to be spending the night with friends?

Well, that was a lie. I was actually sleeping in my car at the graveyard by my brother.

Although we hadn't been together in years, I still think of him as the little boy that I helped raise until he was taken away.

I hope that clears up a little bit about me and maybe even a bit about your memories.

I guess it would be useful to tell you some stuff about Jeno as well, assuming that you eventually reconnect with him.

Jeno was born into the gang with us. His parents weren't much different from yours and he wasn't a very big fan of.

In 2016, Jeno along with a few of the other younger members- including myself- rebelled against the gang. We took down his father and almost all of the older members- which meant we had to go against our own parents too.

We won. After taking them down, we had gotten to take over their trademark of leather jackets. Which is why you always see our members walking around with those extremely hot and heavy pieces of clothing.

It's probably important to mention what exactly your mission code actually meant too so here you go.

1: your age when you first joined a gang
8: your age when you left
A: stands for 'accident'
3: the number of years u were out
C: stands for 'coma'
2: two gangs to protect you from: your parents'
1: one year we had to protect you

Well, that's all I can think about for now. I guess if you want to know more then the only person that can really give you some info would be Jeno.

anyways we finally found out what the code meant! it honestly wasn't supposed to be that big of a deal but you guys were all super curious for some reason??? so i hope this cleared it up

anyways i'm posting another chapter later today and three chapters tomorrow and then marking the book as complete so you all should be ready.
