"I feel sick."
Jeno sighed, holding his stomach tightly before getting off of his motorcycle. He gulped down the saliva forming in his throat as he took off his helmet.
The wind brushed past him nicely, his hair waving slightly as he walked closer to the playground of the park. He looked down at his right hand, smiling slightly recognizing the familiar piece of jewelry.
The sound of his cross necklace tangling up with his regular chain necklace didn't alarm him- his head still held high as he continued to walk.
His eyes were open wide as he stared at his surroundings, looking for the particular girl he had been dying to meet since finding out they were partners.
He knew to keep an eye out for one thing. The familiar crutches that Jaemin had given Jihan for Eunjin to use so she wouldn't be applying too much pressure to the leg she had been stabbed on.
Eunjin sat patiently in a field of grass somewhat close to the playset, picking at the flowers that were around her.
She was in quite a bit of pain on this particular morning which accounted for her clothing of choice. She was sat down in baggy grey sweatpants and a white sports bra, her arms, back, and most of her front side covered by a navy blue letterman jacket. Her hair was down loosely.
Jeno on the other hand was dressed like normal- his legs pulled into black skinny jeans while a loose black t-shirt sat on his chest. On top of it was a custom-made red jacket, white button patches making a pattern on both sides of the front while on the back, NCT was written. His blonde hair was styled to the side, falling down the side of his face comfortably.
It only took him another minute to see the back of the girl. Even in the oversized clothing, he could recognize her somehow.
He tried to wipe the goofy smile off of his face as he approached her, just barely managing to do so in time.
A throaty cough sounded as he stood tall, showcasing his presence to the once clearly distracted girl.
Looking up, Eunjin smiled. "Are you Jeno?"
He nodded, no words leaving his mouth as he sat down on a patch of grass in front of Eunjin. "So we're partners?"
Eunjin nodded, pulling her backpack into her lap. In the small moment, she was turned away to get the bag, Jeno took notice of the necklace around her neck.
He tried to contain his smile as he saw the matching ring dangling at the bottom of the chain. He really didn't think that she'd still have the silly piece of jewelry but it meant a lot to him, even if she didn't know the significance behind it.
"Um, right, so here's all of the stuff we need for the project," she motioned to the things in front of her. A pencil, their shared journal, and the disposable camera.
Looking up, she noticed the look on her partner's face. Realizing he wasn't there for the teacher's explanation, she decided to take things into her own hands.
"We are supposed to spend time together every week. Using this time, we write down stuff about each other in this journal. When we decide to leave, we use the camera to snap photos of one another and place them into the journal. Simple, right?"
Jeno wordlessly nodded, picking up the journal and flipping to the first page. On it, he found rather simplistic questions.
What is your partner's full name?
When is their birthday?
Are they from Korea? If not, where are they from and what was it like growing up there?
Do they have any siblings? If so, how many?
What is their day-to-day life like?
Do they have a job?
Do they have any role models or inspirations?
What made them decide to take this class?Jeno could sit here and answer all of these questions himself to save time but he decided against it. He would take this time to talk with Eunjin. To finally have a conversation with her.
"What's your full name?" Jeno started.
Eunjin sat up, not expecting the questions to start so soon. "Shin Eunjin."
Jeno paused for a short moment, Shin. Distracted with his own inner thoughts, he hadn't realized that he started writing on the first page with the example questions.
"Oh, wait," Eunjin quickly stopped, scooting over as quickly as she could while also trying not to hurt herself in the moment. She was healing quicker than she thought was possible but she wasn't complaining.
"Here," she said softly, picking up his hand and flipping to the next page. Her action wasn't meant to be taken as affection but it made Jeno's heart speed up and his throat feel like it was swelling up.
Don't freak out, he repeated to himself. Slowly, his heart rate began to slow down and he could only nod as Eunjin let go of his hand.
"Shin," she suddenly said. Jeno hummed, stopping his pencil movement as he stared back at her.
"Sorry?"
"Shin," Eunjin repeated. "My surname is Shin, not Lee," she pointed. Jeno looked down and realized in his mind scramble, he had accidentally written Lee instead.
He pulled his lips together, his heart sinking as he erased the surname, replacing it with Shin instead. He wanted to say something to Eunjin but he knew it would be a big problem for both of them.
"Right, sorry." He cleared his throat, the sound slightly taking Eunjin off guard and making her jump a little. "Sorry," he apologized again.
Eunjin squinted her eyes at him, "you don't have to keep apologizing. I was just surprised."
She could tell by his jacket that he was one of the members of NCT but for someone who was in a gang, he was a lot more apologetic and quieter than she assumed.
Jeno nodded, "sor-"
"Jeno."He knew she knew his name. Obviously, she would know his name. But it still made his stomach flip hearing her say it aloud.
