The new doctor.

Chaotic First Day and Solo Surgery

You open the double doors to see it's very chaotic. You people bleeding. People with glass in their skin. "Woah." you, Jackson, and Lexie say at the same time. Jackson then pushes you to the side and goes to the patient with a big piece of glass in their face. "Grey! I need you over here!" Bailey yells to Lexie. Lexie then goes to bailey. You look around. "Johnson! We have incoming!" Hunt yells. You then run over and put a trauma gown on and some gloves. "Unresponsive Jane Doe, looks about 70, has a pulse, but very low, piece of glass going through her stomach." The paramedic says as she unloads the gurney. "That's Granny Kate!" you say while looking at her face.

"Granny Kate. I mean, Katelyn Williams. She was hear my intern year." you say. "Okay! Let's take her to trauma room 1!" Hunt yells. You help Hunt roll the gurney into trauma 1. You then put the monitors on Granny Kate. "Bp is 87/62." you say. The nurse then comes in. "Dr. Hunt there's more incoming." The nurse says. "Okay y/n. This is officially your patient. Do what you need to do, get the help you need. Then remove this piece of glass from her stomach. "Yes sir." you say. "Get me a portable X-ray in here!" you tell the nurse. Once the portable X-ray gets in here you put on a vest and take the X-ray.

Once the X-ray finishes printing you grab them. You hold them up in the air. "Oh no." you say. While your looking at the scan an intern comes in. "Hello. I was assigned to your case." The intern says. You look at the intern and realize who it is. "I don't want you. Go away. Remember. I'm probably not even a resident." you say. "I was joking..." Shane says. "Get me a different intern." you say. "Now!" you yell. A few minutes later a new intern walks in. "Hello. I'm Dr. Edwards." Stephanie says. "Cool. Go call an OR. Your gonna help me take this out of Granny Kate." you say.

Stephanie then calls an OR. You unlock the gurney and start rolling it to the OR. You tie your hair back in an bun. You put on your scrub cap. "Are you ready Edwards?" you ask. " I'm always ready." Stephanie says. The elevator gets to the OR floor. "Take her to the OR and put her under." you tell Stephanie. Stephanie then rolls the gurney to the OR. "Damn it. I'm not supposed to be in an OR.." you mumble. "Freak this." you say. You run to the OR and start scrubbing in. You think about how to remove the piece of glass. You get gowned up. "10 blade." you say. Bohkee hands you the 10 blade and you cut the stomach.

You remember the anatomy and you don't cut the stomach. Once you got the stomach fully open you see it's in the aorta. "Damn it!" you say. "What's wrong?" Stephanie asks. "The glass is in her aorta." you say. "Should we call an attending?" Stephanie asks. "No. I can do this. I was first in my class. I watched a surgery like this before." you say. You then gently pull out the glass. You look to see if the aorta is bleeding. "She's still stable." The anesthesiologist says. You then throw a quick stitch where the glass was so her aorta won't bleed.

You let out a big sigh. Everyone starts clapping. "Okay everyone. Let's close Granny Kate up." you say. You start doing neat sutures on granny Kate. "How's her status?" you ask. "Very good." The anesthesiologist says. You then put the bandaid stitches. "And we are done!" you say. "Let's take Granny Kate to PACU." you say while taking off your gown and gloves. You watch as they roll Granny Kate to the PACU. You then walk to the nurses station and grab her chart. You start filling out the chart when Bailey walks up to you. "Granny Kate was in surgery?" Bailey asks you.

"I just finished her surgery." You say. "What do you mean you?" Bailey says. "Dr. Hunt told me to remove the piece of glass. I did a good job." you say. "Where is Kate?" Bailey asks in an irritated way. "She's going to the PACU." you say. "Bailey, she's fine." you say. "Give me her chart." Bailey says while trying to take it from you. "No. This is my patient. I did my first successful surgery and your not going to ruin it for me." you say while walking away.

You walk up to the PACU to check on Kate. You see that she's away and talking to Stephanie. "How you doing Granny Kate?" you ask while writing down the numbers off her monitor. "I feel fine. I remember riding in my car and then crash. Next thing I know I'm here." Kate says. "Yes ma'am. I'm sorry that happened to you." you say. "I brought you into surgery and took the piece of glass out. Your only gonna have a little scar right here." you say while pointing to your stomach to show Granny Kate where the scars gonna be. "You did my surgery?" Kate says. "Yes ma'am. I did very good." you say. "Thank you so much." Granny Kate says. "No problem." you say while smiling. You then put the chart back.

You then walk out and that's when you get a page. "Edwards." you say. Stephanie then walks out to see you. "Check her every hour in a half. Make sure she's stable." you say. "Nice job today edwards." you say while walking to the chiefs office. You get to the chiefs office to see him and bailey talking. You then knock on the door and walk in. "Y/n sit down." The chief says. "Yes sir?" you say while sitting down. "Dr. Bailey is here telling me you did a solo surgery, without an attending observing you?" The chief says. "Sir, Dr. Hunt transferred the patient to me. I just did her surgery to get the glass out of her aorta." you say. "No, she disrespectf-" bailey starts to say but chief interrupts her.

"How's the patient?" The chief asks you. "Fine and stable. You can go check the stitches yourself. I did a good job." you say. "She's fine. She's going to live a nice rest of her life." you say. "If she's stable whats the problem Bailey?" The chief says. "What's the problem?" Bailey says. "She did a solo surgery without an attending." Bailey yells. "Y/n, get me her charts." The chief says. You then get up. You see Stephanie and Jo waiting outside the chiefs office staring at you.

"Let's go Edwards." You say while walking. "How's Kate?" you ask while walking. "Stable. Talking. Laughing. Eating. And so on." Stephanie says as she walks with you. You and Stephanie then get to Kate's room. "How you feeling granny?" you ask while grabbing the chart. "I feel fine. I'm still sore tho." Granny says. "That's good." you say while smiling. "We'll be back soon." you say. You grab Granny Kate's chart. "Keep a close eye on her." you say. You then walk back to the chiefs office.

You go in and hand him the chart. The chief then looks through it. "Bailey, nothings wrong with Kate. She's fine. She just didn't update you that she was in the hospital." The chief says as he takes his glasses off. "Your excused Johnson. Congrats on your solo surgery." The chief says. "Thank you sir." you say while getting up and leaving. You then walk down the little bride that goes across from each side of the hospitals. You then act like your looking at your phone. You watch as the chief and Bailey start arguing.

You can hear Bailey yelling but it's very low. While your watching you then feel something wrap around your waist, and you get butterflies. "Look who's back to work!" Arizona says. You turn around to see her face. "Hi." you say while grinning. "What's wrong with you?" Arizona asks. You then point for the chiefs office. "They are arguing over me." you say. "It's okay y/n." Arizona says. "Tell me what happened." Arizona says. You start telling Arizona about what happened when you hear a door open.

You turn around to see Bailey walking towards you. You start to panic and put your hands on Arizona shoulders to block you. Bailey then gives you a look while she stops away. "Damn y/n. You really pissed Bailey off." Arizona says while starting to snicker. "Shut it." you say. "I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow." you say. You give Arizona a kiss and then walk the other way. You have a feeling she's staring you down while you walk. You go to the residents lounge and put your white coat back in the locker. You see Lexie sleeping peacefully on the bench. You put your tennis shoes back in the locker and put your crocs on. You grab your keys and then go to your car. You then drive home.

Once you get home you see the big package of clothes you bought. You drag it in the house and take it into your room. You set it in the middle of the floor. You grab a pair of old shorts and take off your scrub shirt and put on a sports bra. You then crack your window open and plop down on the bed. You cover up and then fall asleep.
