The new doctor.

Night shift.

You wake up when it's about 6. Since your 5th year your taking night shifts so you have time to study for your boards. You get up and get in the shower. After you get out you put on your bra and underwear. You grab your scrubs and put them on. You go back into the bathroom. You slick your hair into a ponytail. You take your pills and grab your textbook and bookbag. You put your textbook in your bag and go downstairs. You grab yourself a water bottle and put it in the bag.

You get in the car and get a text message. "Can you come pick me up?" The text from Alex says. "I'll be there in 10." you respond. You start the car and drive to Alex's house. You get there and honk the horn. Alex comes out and jumps in your car. "Hey bestie." you say to Alex joking around. "Hey y/n. You work night shift?" Alex says. "It gives me time to study since nothing really happens." you say. "Study for what?" Alex says while putting his seatbelt on. You start driving to the hospital. "The boards dummy." you say. "You started studying?" Alex says. "Alexander! Please tell me you've started studying." you say.

"Can you be my study buddy!" Alex says. "Alex!" you say while parking the car. "Forget it! Can you just help me run the ER?" Alex says. "Anything for my alexpie!" you say while smiling. "Go to hell." Alex says. You and Alex then walk to the residents lounge and put all of your things into each cubby. You carry your textbook and sticky notes with you. "What's that?" Alex says while you two are walking. "The thing I need to pass my boards. I advise you get one too." you tell Alex. You and Alex get to the ER. You sit at the desk and read through your textbook. Alex is looking over your shoulder and writing everything down.

"Are you copying me!" you say. "No." Alex says while sitting down. "Hmm. Ok." you say. You start high lighting and writing down things in the book and on the sticky notes. "Can you come over one day? I'll invite everyone and we'll all study." Alex says. "You should've been started studying Alex." you say. You and Alex are talking when you guys here a screech outside. "What the hell was that?" Alex says. "I don't know." you say. You and Alex go outside to see what it was. "Help my dad!" the siblings say. You open the back door to see the dad is bleeding from the chest. "LETS GET A GURNEY OUT HERE!" Alex yells. The little girl is holding her dads chest stopping the bleeding.

"Hello. I'm dr. Johnson but you can call me y/n. What happened to your dad?" you say while putting on your gloves. "My sister doesn't speak English she speaks Spanish." The boy  says while crying. "¿Como te llamas cariño?( Whats your name sweetie?) " you say. "L-liv." the girl says while crying. "Está bien Liv, soy tu y/n." (Okay Liv, I'm y/n.) you say. "Voy a poner mi mano donde está la tuya para detener la hemorragia tu papá." (I'm going to put my hand where your hand is to stop your dads bleeding.) you say. Liv nods. You put your hand in the chest. Alex brings out a gurney. "Por favor ayuda a mi papá." Liv says. "Hare mi mejor esfuerzo." (I will do my best.) you tell Liv and her brother. You stand on the side of the gurney and stopping the bleeding with your hand.

Y'all get to a trauma room. "SOMEONE PAGE CARDIO!" you say. "Gauze." you say. The nurse hands you the gauze as you stuff them in the patient. Cristina then gets in the room. "Where's cardio?" you say. "Teddy got fired the other day. Dr. Russell sent me." Cristina says. "Who the hell is Dr. Russell?" you say while still stuffing the chest. "Lets get him to the OR." Cristina says. They unlock the gurney and go out the other door. You take the gloves off and throw them in medical waste.

You see the little girl and boy that came screaming and crying because of the social worker taking them. "Hey hey! I got them." you say. You go over towards them. "How old are you buddy?" you ask the boy. "1-14.. i just d-drove a c-car." he says pretty shaking up. "Let's go get you guys some water." you say. You run over and grab your textbook and walk with the kids to the cafeteria.

You get the kids ice cream and jello cups. "So where are you guys from?" you say to them. "We were born in Mexico, our father is legal but not our mother. Shes stuck at the border." the boy says. "I haven't got your name?" you say. "I'm Luca and she's Liv." Luca says. "I'm y/n." you say. "Do you have any family in Seattle?" you ask Luca. "We were just minding our business..." Luca says. "It's okay buddy." you say while rubbing his shoulder. ¿Cómo extrañas a Liv?" (How are you miss Liv?) you say. "Solo quiero que mi papá esté bien." ( I just want my dad to be okay.) Liv says. "He should be alright." you say. The social worker then comes up to you. "I'll be back." you say.

You stand up and pull the social worker to the side. "What's up?" you say. "I have to take them to bed now. Thank you all for your help." The worker says. "The boy is Luca, he's 14. Speaks fluent English but has his accent. And the girl Liv, she doesn't speak English at all." you tell the worker. "Got it." The worker says. You go back over to Luca and Liv. "Ustedes tienen que irse con el trabajador ahora. Les daré a todos una actualización sobre su padre." ( You guys have to go with the worker now. I will get y'all an update about your dad.) you say. "Thank you so much y/n." Luca says. You give him a hug and then you give Liv a hug. "Adiós." Liv says as she grabs the hand of the social worker. You grab your textbook and go to the residents lounge.

You sit on the floor and stretch. Alex and Cristina then walk in. Cristina plops on the couch and Alex lays on the bench. "What are you doing y/n?" Cristina asks. "Studying. Why?" you say. "Why are you studying already?" Cristina says. "I switched to nights so I have a lot of time to study." you say while writing on your sticky notes. "Did you pick your specialty?" Alex says. "Yes I did. Im going into Neuro." you say. "I like the sound of that." Cristina says. "Since me and y/n are basically the best, she's the Neuro goddess, and I'm the cardio god." Cristina says. You all start laughing. "You going into peds Alex?" you say. "You already know." Alex says.

"Have you talked to Arizona y/n?" Alex says. "I mean I work nights now. I don't have enough time. She should understand." you say. Alex and Cristina then look at eachother. "Ok." Alex says. "Come over next week. I'll invite Jackson, April, mer, and you two. And we'll all study together." Alex says. "I'm the only one going into Neuro though?" you say. "It doesn't matter, come over." Alex says. "Oh Cristina, did the dad survive?" you ask. "He's in the ICU stable." Cristina says while kicking off her shoes. Cristina throws you a pillow and Alex a pillow. You place the pillow on the floor and lay on your back.

"This is so relaxing." you say. 5 minutes later all of you are sleep.
