Kana and Giyu had been sent to patrol in his territory as there had been a large influx of demons and it was believed that Muzan himself could be in the area. They were about a day out from the next town and making great time despite the harsh weather. They were in the mountains and the snow and cold were rough especially for traveling. Kana was glad she had worn her brand new uniform as it was fur lined.

"Hey Giyu.." Kana began as she flew through the trees. "Why do you think people become demons?"

"How should I know, more importantly why should I care?" Giyu said while he ran on the ground.

"Oh I don't know, I just feel like there is no good reason to become a demon. Even with loss why would you want to live forever without the people you love. It just doesn't make any sense. What could possibly be a good motive to become an immortal man eating demon?"

Kana thought on this for the rest of their journey. Night fell and the two decided to rest a bit. Kana slept first followed by Giyu who slept after her. They rotated incase demons were to appear.

"We're about 5 miles out from the nearest town." Giyu said. Suddenly in a flash both Hashira diverged from their course.

"You sense it too?" Kana asked with a smile on her face.

"Can you pinpoint it?" Giyu said sternly.

"Of course I can!" Kana said picking up speed and charging for the demon. Kana dived down from the trees aiming for the demons neck but was halted by the demons meal throwing it out of the way.  She cut the boy's crimson hair instead and they tumbled into a tree.

"Giyu, this child is protecting this demon." Kana said in a confused tone. She the cocked her head to the side and turned to the boy. "Why are you protecting a demon?" She asked.

"She's my sister! I was taking her to get help!" The boy yelled. His maroon eyes dulled by loss and filled with tears. His sister struggled to get away from him and escape the Hashira's presence. "N-Nezuko, stop." The boy said as he held the demon.

"You call that thing your sister?" Tomioka said coldly. His blue eyes emotionless to the spectacle before him. He then flew towards the boy apprehending the demon and holding its arms back with one hand. The boy had curled into a ball in hopes of defending his precious sister, but his efforts were in vain.

"Now now Giyu, let's not be rash. He is just a boy after all. It would be cruel to kill his sister in front of him." Kana said trying to diffuse the situation, Giyu shot Kana a look and Kana proceeded to back down and jump into a nearby tree. He had a plan and she would not interrupt.

"Nezuko!"

"Don't move." Tomioka said, his emotionless face not faltering for even a second. "My job is to slay every demon I find which means I have to decapitate your sister here."

"No wait!" The boy pleaded "Nezuko hasn't hurt anyone. Back at my house, there was another scent. One I've never smelled before! That's probably the one... who killed my family." The boys voice became raspy and he began to tremble as he pleaded for his sister's life.

'We were too late...' Kana thought to herself

"Nezuko didn't do it! I don't know why she's changed into something like this! But still!"

"It's really quite simple, she's turned because her wounds were exposed to demon blood. That's how the man eating monsters multiply."

"Nezuko would never eat a human!" The boy said taking a defensive tone.

"You must be joking." Tomioka said, the words rolling off his tongue with the sting of resentment and disgust.  "If we hadn't gotten here when we did she would have devoured you."
