Premise/Summary
"My Heart resides in these pages"
In which a young girl tells the tales of the great gods of the past in the form of poems.
"What I hate, is the smallness of mind, the lack of imagination and eyes that doesn't see beyond its lashes."Review Proper
A. Introduction
I love the blurb, really. It tells us everything that the collection has to offer and I think that's quite good. The quote at the end is a reflection of the themes and the whole point of the collection which I think is really nice.
The introductory poem is also good! Like, it tells us that the gods of old never really faded and I find that idea quite intriguing and very, very good.
B. Elements
Even though most of the lines in the poems are not rhyming, I think the poems in this collection holds up to the best poetry out there. In the form of a hymnal and/or adoration to the gods of Hindu, Egypt, and Greece, I think it not only educates readers about the pantheon but it also gives us this sense of appreciation for them as well.
The additional info at the end of the poems as well as the old version included in the parts are very insightful. The way the gods are tackled are consistent with the running scheme of the poems and that makes the whole collection beautiful.
C. Themes
The themes tackled in this collection are, of course, your adoration for the gods in the pantheon. The title alludes to the question of whether we really forgot the gods in our society and/or modern life or not. I love how you're bringing to the mainstream platforms talks of the pantheon and representing them in such a creative manner like poetry.
I have never seen anything like this and for me, I think the themes are handled and presented well. Good job!
D. Emotional Impact
As someone who looooves gods and mythology, you certainly brought that love back to life with this collection. I loved learning about the gods and goddesses. I love how the poetry invoked them as the priests back then would. I love how you came up with this whole collection. I just looooooove everything!!
AaaaaaaaaaaaaaA.
That explains enough emotional impact, right? xD
E. Technicalities
A few missing words and a few typos but otherwise okay. Formatting issues are non-existent. The way the visuals are arranged is also quite nice. Everything is just *chef's kisses*. Good job!
Over-all Impression
This is a 10/10 in my scale. It's unconventional contemporary poetry with a mix of ancient styles. It takes you to a period in time where people used to chant things like this. It certainly educates people about the gods and their respective mythologies. The research done is just very, very good! So, Ruhika, you've done a good job with this collection. You've just earned a fan in me. uwu. Keep writing more mythological poetry!
(Ps. Is it possible for you to make more of other gods? xD No pressure. lol.)
