What I loved: This book and series is unlike anything I've been exposed to. I love the world, the conflict, the twists and turns, and the MC. The character work is done superbly and I honestly have no more words for it.
The plot is engaging and has the ability to string readers along up to the very end. There were no dull moments and that's a huge thing for me. The narrative is mostly polished, with not a word out of place. It's very hard for me to spot errors when I'm not trying. That's how polished this book is!
Lastly, the worldbuilding is also done and executed well. I was really immersed in a world where powerful mind-readers have conquered everything. I truly appreciate the amount of work that went into crafting this beautiful universe.
Overall, it's a good and enjoyable read.
What didn't work: It's the ending for me, or at least the latter part of the book. I feel like it was rushed with its wrapping up because there was no prior build-up for Thomas's reasoning and plan. There were clues planted either. It's like the MC just thought of his plan in a flash and executed it in one go. I would have loved a good build-up with how Thomas eventually came up with his plan. It didn't mean that the reader would immediately get what Thomas's plan is from the get-go just that they would have some sort of idea of what was being schemed from the shadows.
The pacing also adheres to that. The book spent a long while building up the exposition of the world and some of the details/scenes that could have furthered the plot got rushed towards the end. Personally, I don't mind that but do take note that a good portion of the book is focused on introducing the world and its conflict more than the characters actually interacting with the conflict and resisting against it. It's not bad, especially since this is the start of a long adventure, but as a standalone, I did feel short-changed.
What to improve: Def those points above. Honestly, I didn't find any more stuff to improve in this book. Everything is already there and done perfectly. Just a few typos and repeated words but that should be the least of your concern. This book has it all, already. So, good job!
Final verdict: This is a solid 9/10 on my scale. It's honestly one of the best books I've read on Wattpad and I can confidently say it deserves all the reads, votes, and wins that it attained. You have gained a fan in me and I can't wait to continue the journey with the series. Keep on building this deviously wonderful world. Keep writing. We'll get there in no time. :))
