Chandra remained opposite me with her mouth hung open in total disbelief. Silence totally consumed us. I had some idea of how she would react but I didn't anticipate this amount of silence and shock. Then again I did just practically drop a bombshell on her - there's a chance I have not one but two babies on the way.
After a solid fifteen minutes she went to say something but got cut off by my phone ringing. Looking at the screen it was Terrence. He knew not to call me unless it was urgent so whatever it is must be important.
"Wassup Big T."
"You know how you wanted me to come over and check up on Genesis and bring her the new prenatals?"
"Yeah what about it? Is she being difficult again?"
"When I got here no one answered the door yet her car was here and the windows were open and all. You know me, I wasn't about to just leave. The door was unlocked so I let myself in and then..." there was silence for a few seconds "Boss, I found her in a pool of her own blood in the kitchen. She was breathing but barely had a pulse. I called the ambulance and we're at the hospital now but you need to get down here."
My heart dropped. "The baby..is the baby okay?"
"I don't know Aug, they won't tell me anything."
I glanced up at Chandra who immediately mouth to me 'what's wrong' while a look of concern was made evident on her face. I blinked away the tears that were forming and gathered myself enough to reply.
"I'm on my way. Text me if anything happens between now and me getting there."
"Will do. Be safe boss."
As soon as I hung up Chandra was walking back into the room with her coat on and her keys in her hand; she knew something was wrong.
"What's going on?"
"We have to go to the hospital."
She simply nodded her head and we walked outside to her car. I got into the passengers seat while she got into the drivers seat and soon we were practically speeding towards the hospital. We rushed in together and were met by Terrence who was waiting by reception. He wasted no time leading us to Genesis.
I got the shock of my life when I saw how bad she was looking. She was unconscious, hooked up to several different machines and her entire body seemed to be covered with bruises. A doctor stood beside her bed writing some things down but halted when he heard me enter the room. His eyes widened a little, I'm guessing he knows who I am, but he quickly put on a blank face.
"I um.." I gulped and averted my eyes from Genesis. "I'm August Alsina, her boyfriend. Is she okay? Is the baby okay?"
"I'm Dr Zoraver. Miss Parker here sustained a lot of injuries, both externally and internally. We are certain that someone beat her but that will be something that the police follow up. She was rushed into the ER and we had our team working on her extensively, she was almost dead Mr Alsina." He sighed. "Due to the trauma her body endured, the baby was without oxygen for quite sometime and he too sustained very serious injuries...I'm sorry to have to tell you this but the baby didn't make it."
