I just wanted to put a trigger warning before y'all read this chapter as it talks a bit about cancer and I know this is a hard topic for some people. I send my love out to those of you who have experienced it, know someone who has gone through or is going through dealing with it. My own family has experienced it too, so I truly understand.

We hadn't planned on coming home so soon, but after Chandra's phone call yesterday we couldn't stay away any longer. We packed up all our stuff within the hour and were on the private jet straight back to New Orleans. August was a total mess. He cried the entire time we packed and eventually cried himself to sleep in my arms on the flight. I had my own little moment too but I know that I have to be strong because August is slowly breaking down over this and one of us has to be strong for the sake of his family, Loyal and our baby that is yet to make his or her appearance.

We got off the plane at the private terminal where Terrence waited by an SUV. August didn't even acknowledge him, he simply climbed into the car and sat with his head in his hands. I thanked Terrence who could only sympathise with this entire situation before helping me into the car. He got into the driver's seat and we started driving to the house. I scooted next to August and wrapped my arms around him. As soon as I did so he started sobbing louder than ever. He turned and wrapped his arms around me, crying into my chest. I tightened my grip around him and ran my fingers through his hair - something that seemed to calm him down.

It may seem like one giant overreaction to what could be seen as just a diagnosis but what Chandra explained on the phone shook the both of us. She hadn't had any symptoms until a few months ago, but no doctors ever listened to her, they all put it down to something else. Last month she got really, really sick and pushed the issue with doctors, at the time however she was being seen to by a new doctor who'd just started at the clinic. He acted immediately. She's had to go through all the tests and finally they found what that doctor had suspected...but they found it very late. The cancer has already travelled throughout different parts of her body and she has to begin treatments right away, though they may not even do anything for her. That's what really made August and I want to come back home.

As if the baby could sense their daddy's sadness, he or she began kicking vigorously. August picked up his head and looked into my eyes, then down at my belly as the baby kicked again and again. For the first time in a day he smiled.

"Our baby knows daddy is upset." I said softly. "I think they're trying to make you feel better."

"It will take a lot to make me feel better." He replied honestly. "But this is definitely helping."

Terrence cleared his throat as the car came to a stop. "Everly, August, we're here."

August looked up at me as fresh tears rolled down his cheeks. I sighed and wiped them away with my thumbs, then kissed him softly.

"I'm here for you babe, whatever you need, pregnant or not, I got you."

"Thank you." He replied and kissed me deeply. "I'm gonna go straight upstairs and get freshened up, I don't want Loyal to see me like this."
