CHAPTER 9
Internship

"Oli!"

She didn't take it as a cue to help me. Pinanood niya lang akong maghirap. She haven't changed at all.

"You'd be living with me from now on," she said when I stopped in front of her.

I made a face. "I'd be living with you for six weeks only," paglilinaw ko. "Where's Kuya Iker?" I tried to take a peek inside her car, but it's too tinted.

"He's not here. Didn't you know that he's staying in Canada? We're in New York. Why are you looking for him here?"

I only shrugged my shoulders as an answer. My eyes sparkled at the thought of meeting Lola and Lolo again. I stopped putting my suitcases in the back of her car and turned to face her—who's watching me suffer.

"Let's go visit Lola and Lolo," masayang aya ko.

She looked at me with those amused eyes then a grin broke on her lips. "You didn't know anything about us here." She shook her head.

She took a deep sighed.

"Lola and Lolo are living with Tito Loey somewhere in California," she informed.

I miss them a lot.

Ate Aleah drew a deep breath. Before saying something that made me jump from joy. "Since you arrived early, let's go meet them."

All I think about is I'm going to see my grandparents again!

She made calls earlier, and I think it'd be safe, too.

We're bound to San Francisco, California. I was really excited, not because I'd be there for the first time, but because I'd be able to meet my grandparents for the first time in ten years. They must be old by now.

We didn't plan this, but because she loves me, we're here now.

Kaagad kaming sumakay ng taxi pagkalabas ng airport. I didn't know what's happening in the Philippines, my battery's dead.

Ate paid for the fare while I remained standing in front of the three-story mansion.

"I get it now why they chose to move here," I mumbled as I stared at the ocean in front of the mansion.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" si ate nang makalapit sa akin. "Let's go and surprise them."
