" have you decided if you're covering for hagrid yet? " lee asked as george and i came out of our room anxiously. " i wanted to confer it with you guys as well-". fred interrupted me as he began voicing his opinion. " i think you should do it. it would be a great opportunity for you to kick-start a career with magical creatures and you could have lots of fun! besides, it's only for a term at the minute so you wont be away long and we'll write to you ". " i agree, i think this would be great for you. we're going to miss you but you need to do this " lee sighed, hugging me as i sunk into his shoulder. " yeah, you're right " i whispered, closing me eyes and resting my forehead on his chest.

' professor dumbledore,

i must start off by saying thank you for this opportunity and i would be most delighted to reconvene at hogwarts and take the post of care of magical creatures. if you would be so kind as to connect your study fireplace to the one in the flat above weasleys' wizard wheezes; that way, i can use the floo network to get to hogwarts and see you immediately. i look forward to being back and seeing everybody soon.

" we'll see you very soon, okay? time will pass quickly and we'll be back together soon, just have a nice time and enjoy yourself. i love you, doll " fred said hugging me goodbye. " i love you too ". " it sucks that you're not going to be with us but like fred said, time will fly by and before you know it, you'll be back here " toby exclaimed, putting on a false- happy act as he too, pulled me into a tight hug and swaying us slightly. " come here, you " lee sighed, grabbing my hand and pulling me close to him before cupping my cheeks. " i don't want you worrying about us, i know what you're like. i'll tell you about everything that happens here so you better keep me updated on school too, missy " he chuckled as he kissed my head and wrapped his arms around my shoulders as i put mine around his torso.

i pulled away and turned towards george who had his head down, looking at the floor with his hands in his trouser pockets. i walked over to him and cupped his face. " hi " i whispered as he picked his head up and looked at me. " hello " he replied, putting his hands on my wrist and holding them against his cheeks, rubbing his thumbs over my skin. " keep everything in order for me whilst i'm away, yeah? i give you my permission to order them about and be the boss ". " hey! as if he doesn't do that already!" lee groaned as we all laughed. " oh hush he's not that bad " i scolded as george nodded. " just because he's your favourite " fred mumbled. " is that a problem, frederick? ". " nope, no problem here " he laughed in response as i turned back to george. 

i stood on my tip toes and leant up to kiss him. he placed his hand on the back of my head as his fingers got tangled in my hair and pushed my head more further forward, if that was even possible. " i love you " i whispered against his lips as i moved to hug him. " i love you more " he replied as his lips hovered above my temple before he placed a kiss there. " i'll see you soon " george said as he pulled me back and placed one more longing kiss on my lips. i smiled and made my way to the fireplace as i grabbed a handful of powder. " bye y/n! "- " have fun! "- " stay safe, my darling ". 

i stepped out of the fireplace coughing as i unwilingly inhaled a load of floo powder. " i'm not sure you are supposed to inhale the floo powder, my dear " an old, hoarse voice approached as i looked around and saw the hogwarts headmaster. " professor " i breathed, laughing slightly as he walked towards me and took my hand in his, patting it before taking me to his desk. " i am delighted you have returned ". i then noticed his hand. it looked bruised but it was black and looked painful. " ah yes, the tale is thrilling if i do say so myself but now is not the time to tell it " he said as he moved his hand out of my view.

the new first years had been sorted into their houses and dumbledore announced that it was time to eat. it felt weird seeing the students from the teachers table, now i knew how much they actually saw. ginny noticed me, giving me a frantic wave which then caught the attention of everyone else. well, everyone except harry. where was he?  " mate look, y/n is at the professors table. i'm not kidding! " i heard blaises voice echo as i looked towards the slytherin table and saw the slytherin boys looking. i gave them a curt nod as the sound of slamming caught my attention. it was hermione, whacking ron with her potions book. seriously'mione? you've been here thirty minutes and you're already studying for potions?  " will-you-stop-eating? your best friend is missing! ". " oi! turn around you lunatic " ron replied, nodding towards the door as harry walked in with luna. " oh for goodness sake " i muttered when i saw that he was holding a bloody napkin to his nose. " oh! i didn't know y/n was back " lunas calming voice said as harrys head snapped up to hers and looked around the gryffindor table. " where? ". " there, with the other professors, at the table " luna pointed as his gaze rested on me and his face lit with a smile. 

when dumbledore stood up for his annual feast speech, the hall fell silent and he proceeded. " just a few notices for you this evening! first off, there are two new teaching arrangements this term: a dear friend and old collegue of mine, horace slughorn, has consented to return to hogwarts and resume his post as potions master whilst defence against the dark arts will be taken by our very own, professor snape ". the slytherins and other houses cheered as i looked forward and saw harry, ron and hermione share a undelighted look. " i am pleased to welcome back ex- student, miss y/n black as a professor. she has agreed to take the post of care of magical creatures whilst profesor hagrid is away and i'm sure you will all join me in welcoming our new professors with good luck " he smiled as i stood up and took a bow whilst everyone clapped. " now as you know, all of you were searched upon your arrival today and i believe that you have the right to know why. once, there was a young boy who, like you, sat in this very hall, walked this castle's corridors, slept under its roof. he seemed to all the world, a normal student, like any other. his name? tom riddle ". gasps and whispers could be heard all around the hall as dumbledore continued. 

" today of course, he is known all over the world by a different name. which is why, as i stand looking out upon you all tonight, i am reminded of a sobering fact: everyday, every hour, this very minute perhaps, dark forces attempt to penetrate this castles walls but in the end, its greatest weapon, is you. just something to think about, now off to bed! " the headmaster finished as everybody began getting up and heading to their dormitories. professor snape showed me to my room and he congratulated me on the teaching post. i returned it as i know how long he has wanted to teach defence against the dark arts. " it's good to be back " i sighed as i looked around the room that i would be calling home for the next eight weeks. " it's good to have you back, y/n. goodnight ". " goodnight professor " i smiled as he closed the door and left me by myself. 

i never thought i would say this but i really have missed this place and it's memories. i wonder what i would be doing if i had continued with my education. i sat on my bed and absentmindedly began thinking about all the fun times i had here at school; all the late nights in the common room, the staying up all nights and seeing who could survive longest with lee and the twins, even the lessons were fun but i took it for granted. my eyes were getting heavy, i'll write to everyone tomorrow after i've caught up with the others here.
